A fluid sensor system capable of sensing a fluid level or a volume of fluid held by a reservoir, such as a container or a tank. In one embodiment, the system may include a magnetic element in a flotation device that suspends the magnetic element in the fluid held by the reservoir, so that the magnetic element randomly floats in proximity to a top of the fluid surface. Two or more magnetic field sensors or magnetometers are associated with the reservoir in at least two different locations, spaced apart from one another. The system further includes a processor coupled to the sensors. The magnetic field sensors may sense the strength of the magnetic field around the magnetic element to generate signals that are sent to the processor. The processor may then determine the location of the magnetic element within the reservoir based on the signals. The determined location can be correlated to a volume of fluid within the tank which is output to another device and/or a user.

A method for controlling the operability and functionality of an electronic device with an electronic device detection system begins by determining whether an electronic device is located within the vehicle and proximate to an operator of the vehicle. The electronic device detection system defines a restricted zone in which electronic device use is partially or fully prohibited and a safe zone in which all or some of the functionality of electronic devices is enabled. Once it is determined that an electronic device is in use and within a restricted zone, a determination is made as to whether any usage prohibition conditions are satisfied. If usage prohibition conditions are satisfied, then particular functions of the electronic device may be disabled in a restricted zone. If prohibition conditions are not met, the electronic device may be totally enabled, partially enabled to allow certain functions, or the electronic device is never disabled.

The system also includes a second circuit configured to use the first information received from the portable electronic device and to at least one of format the control signal in accordance with the first information and to cause the radio frequency transmitter to format the control signal in accordance with the first information.

At least one compass deviation coefficient is determined based on a database of geographic zone error factors stored in the memory device and based on a position of the compass. The processing circuit is configured to update the database of geographic zone error factors using an internet connection. The processing circuit is configured to store the deviation coefficients in memory and to at least one of calibrate the compass and adjust an output from the compass using the compass deviation coefficients.

A system for mounting to a first vehicle and for learning information from a first transmitter configured to be mounted to a second vehicle. The first transmitter is further configured to cause the activation of a remote device by transmitting a first control signal to the remote device. The system includes a receiver and processing electronics coupled to the receiver and configured to increase the sensitivity of the receiver. Increasing the sensitivity of the receiver is based on the receipt of a first command that indicates that the information will be communicated from the first transmitter. The receiver with increased sensitivity is configured to receive the information from the first transmitter. The processing electronics are configured to used the received information to determine signal characteristics. The system further includes a memory coupled to the processing electronics and configured to store the signal characteristics, and a second transmitter coupled to the processing electronics. The second transmitter is configured to receive a second command from the processing electronics to generate and transmit a second control signal based on the stored signal characteristics. The second control signal is transmitted to the remote device to cause the activation of the remote device.
