A method for reducing idle mode power consumption is disclosed. An idle mode is entered. A neighboring base station is selected. If the selected neighboring base station is assigned a high-frequency monitoring mode, a signal strength of the neighboring base station is measured. A low-frequency monitoring mode is assigned to the selected neighboring base station if the signal strength of the selected neighboring base station has been below a power threshold for longer than a time threshold. Reducing idle mode power consumption for monitoring neighboring base stations

A method for receiving acknowledgements from plural wireless communication devices is described. A first acknowledgement message addressed to the plural wireless communication devices is transmitted. The first acknowledgement message indicates for each wireless communication device a period within which that wireless communication device should transmit a device acknowledgement message. A device acknowledgement message is received from each of the plural wireless communication devices. The device acknowledgement message is transmitted within the period indicated for that wireless communication device to transmit its device acknowledgement message. Multiple wireless communication device acknowledgements

Devices, systems, articles of manufacture, and methods for allowing a rejected wireless communication device access to a communication channel are described. According to some embodiments, a message that includes a wait state override indicator is generated. The message is transmitted to the wireless communication device. Allowing a rejected wireless communication device access to a communication channel

Devices, methods, and systems capable of an enabling transmission and receipt of secure and non-secure data are discussed in this document. According to some embodiments, a network apparatus can transmit ciphered and unciphered data. The network apparatus transmits a first signal indicating a cipher to be used and transmits a second signal indicating that non-secure data is to be transmitted and received unciphered. The network apparatus can cipher secure data and transmits ciphered-secure data and unciphered-non-secure data. A wireless terminal can receive the first and second signals, the ciphered secure data, and the unciphered non-secure data. The wireless terminal can deciphers the received secure data and does not decipher the received non-secure data. System embodiments can include both network-side and network terminal components. Embodiments of the present invention enable secure transmission of data in concert with efficient processing. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

Methods and apparatus for transmitting and receiving secure and non-secure data

Devices, methods, and systems for implementing semi non-DRx mode for a wireless communication device are described herein. According to some embodiments, if it is determined that semi non-DRx mode is supported by a network, a wireless communication device can enter semi non-DRx mode. The paging block on a multiframe corresponding to the wireless communication device's paging index is monitored. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described above.

An apparatus is provided for demodulating a block, the block including a plurality of bursts. The apparatus comprises a demodulator configured to demodulate the plurality of bursts and a modulation detector configured to detect a modulation scheme for a current burst in the plurality of bursts and to determine whether there is a high probability that the detected modulation scheme is correct. The modulation detector instructs the demodulator to demodulate each burst subsequent to the current burst in the plurality of bursts based on the detected modulation scheme when the modulation detector determines a high probability that the modulation scheme is correct.

Devices, systems, articles of manufacture, and methods for restricting access to a communication channel are described. According to some embodiments, a message with access restriction data addressed to at least one wireless communication device is generated. The access restriction data indicates that a group of wireless communication devices is associated with a priority value and that the group of wireless communication devices has restricted access to a communication channel. Restricting access of a wireless communication device to a communication channel

Apparatus and methods are disclosed for reducing or eliminating searches by a UE for its home PLMN when the mobile station is roaming in a network not in the vicinity of the home PLMN. That is, the UE may be provisioned with information about its home PLMN. For example, some embodiments can comprise a neighbor database indicating neighbor relationships between PLMNs and the home PLMN. This can enable a UE to determine whether the home PLMN is likely to be nearby when it is visiting a different PLMN. Forgoing a PLMN home search reduces processing and can aid in conserving power resources. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.
