A method for removing a hip stem from bone comprises drilling a channel through the bone adjacent to the hip stem from a proximal end to a distal end thereof, the channel defining a longitudinal first axis. The method further comprises drilling a hole along a second axis through the bone adjacent to a distal end of the hip stem such that the channel and the hole intersect. The method additionally comprises inserting a first end of a cutting wire through the channel and the hole and cutting an interface between the hip stem and the bone with the cutting wire.

Intramedullary prosthesis removal systems and methods thereof

An expandable rod system includes a first rod portion having an internal cavity, a second rod portion sealingly positioned within the internal cavity of the first rod portion and moveable in a first axial direction relative to the first rod portion, and an osmotic chamber for receiving an osmotic agent to facilitate movement of the second rod portion to expand the rod system. The rod system includes a lock assembly engageable with the second rod portion to prevent the second rod portion from moving in a second axial direction. The lock assembly includes a tapered ramped portion and a bearing member that is moveable within the tapered ramped portion such that when compression forces are imparted on the second rod portion, the bearing member becomes wedged in the tapered ramped portion.

An orthopedic implant includes a porous insert having a first insert portion having a first insert thickness and a second insert portion having a second insert thickness. The implant includes a non-metallic structure having a first non-metallic portion having a first non-metallic thickness and a second non-metallic portion having a second non-metallic thickness. The first non-metallic portion is attached to the first insert portion and the second non-metallic portion is attached to the second insert portion. Either or both of the second insert thickness being different from the first insert thickness and the second non-metallic thickness being different from the first non-metallic thickness. The porous insert includes a porous projection extending into the non-metallic structure.

A method of planning a procedure to fasten an implant to a bone includes displaying a model of the bone and a model of the implant on a display device. The model implant is positioned on the model bone in a desired implant position. A first boundary volume of a first fastener configured to fasten the prosthesis to the bone is also displayed on the display device. The first boundary volume represents a range of possible positions that the first fastener may have with respect to the prosthesis when fastened to the bone. The boundary volume may be used to determine a desired size, shape, and/or positioning of the fastener with respect to the bone.

Implant placement planning

Disclosed herein are implants with threaded inserts and methods for attaching the same to the implants. The threaded insert may define a first external dimension and include an internally threaded hole to receive a fastener. The implant may include a receiving hole with a proximal portion having a proximal diameter and a distal portion having a distal diameter. The distal diameter may be greater than the proximal diameter and substantial the same as the first dimension of the insert to secure the insert in the receiving hole. A method of attaching a threaded insert to a receiving hole of an implant with an insertion tool is also disclosed.

A method for repairing a bone of a patient may include superimposing a first virtual boundary on a virtual bone and superimposing a second virtual boundary on the virtual bone. The method may further include robotically modifying the bone of the patient with a planar tool along a first working boundary to create a first surface. The first working boundary may correspond to the first virtual boundary. The method may further include robotically modifying the bone of the patient with a rotary tool along a second working boundary to create a second surface. The second working boundary may correspond to the second virtual boundary.

Systems and methods for repairing bone with multiple tools

A dual reconstructive wire system for use with an anatomy can include a first guide wire, a second guide wire, a first guide instrument, a first cannulated insertion instrument, and a second cannulated insertion instrument. The first guide wire can pass through the first cannulated insertion instrument such that a first end and a second end of the first guide wire extends beyond the first end and the second end, respectively of the first cannulated insertion instrument. The second guide wire can pass through the second cannulation insertion instrument such that a first end and a second end of the second guide wire extends beyond the first end and the second end, respectively of the second cannulated insertion instrument.

Method and apparatus for orthopedic fixation

An implant providing for both short and long term stability and fixation is disclosed. The implant includes a plurality of projections extending from a bone contacting surface, and a porous material covering at least portions of the surface and projections. The orientation of the projections and the porous material provide for the stability and fixation. Methods of forming and utilizing the implant are also disclosed.
