An air-inlet duct includes an outer wall, an inner wall, and a splitter. The splitter cooperates with the outer wall to establish a particle separator which separates particles entrained in an inlet flow moving through the air-inlet duct to provide a clean flow of air to a compressor section of a gas turbine engine.

Particle separator

An adaptive inertial particle separation system may include an active configuration and a passive configuration. The system may comprise an air-intake duct including an outer wall spaced apart from a central axis, an inner wall located between the outer wall and the engine rotation axis, an intake passage defined in part by the inner wall and the outer wall, and a splitter located between the outer wall and the inner wall. The system may further include a sensor operatively connected to the air-intake duct and operative to initiate at least one of the active configuration and passive configuration.

Adaptable inertial particle separator

An enhanced pressure-wave supercharger for a combustion engine utilizes a superior pressure wave process cycle design. The design utilizes a select final portion of the compressed gas stream exiting the rotor, and supplies it to a subsequent inlet port ahead of and prior to the introduction into the rotor of the aspirated air to be compressed. Work is extracted within the rotor from this gas stream and transferred into rotational energy of the rotor through using a portion the available momentum of the compressed gas via incidence on the rotor webs to turn the rotor by means of conventional turbomachinery principles.

Enhanced pressure wave supercharger system and method thereof

A wave rotor includes an inlet plate, an outlet plate, and a rotor drum positioned therebetween. The inlet plate is formed to include an inlet port arranged to receive gasses. The outlet plate is formed to include an outlet port arranged to receive the gasses flowing out of the wave rotor. The rotor drum is arranged to rotate relative to the inlet and outlet plates. A piston assembly is used to counteract forces from pressure built up in the rotor drum.

An intertial particle seperator (IPS) including an intake air duct, a scavenge duct that shares an interior common wall with the intake air duct, a clean air duct, and a splitter. The splitter is configured to split a flow of intake air into a flow of scavenge air to pass through the scavenge duct and a flow of clean air to pass through the clean air duct. The IPS also includes a plurality of valleys on the intake air duct. The plurality of valleys includes a plurality of troughs and peaks along the interior common wall. In addition, each trough of the plurality of valleys extends along a direction of the flow of intake air.

A wave rotor assembly includes a wave rotor combustor and an exit duct. The wave rotor combustor includes an aft plate formed to include an exit port and a rotor drum mounted for rotation relative to the aft plate. The rotor drum is formed to include a plurality of rotor passages arranged to align with the exit port during rotation of the rotor drum. The exit duct is coupled to the aft plate and defines a passage arranged to receive exhaust gasses flowing through the exit port.

A wave rotor combustor includes an inlet plate, an outlet plate, and a rotor drum assembly positioned therebetween. The inlet plate is formed to include an inlet port arranged to receive a mixture of fuel and air. The outlet plate is formed to include an outlet port arranged to receive combusted gasses flowing out of the wave rotor combustor. The rotor drum assembly is arranged to rotate relative to the inlet and outlet plates and to combust the fuel and air mixture as part of a combustion process. Conditioned air is passed through the wave rotor combustor to regulate a temperature distribution of the wave rotor combustor.

A wave rotor includes an inlet end plate, a rotor drum, and an outlet end plate. The inlet end plate is arranged to direct a flow of gasses into rotor passages formed in the rotor drum. The rotor drum is arranged to receive the gasses. The outlet end plate is arranged to direct the gasses out of the rotor drum.
