The invention provides an exhaust gas cleaning oxidation catalyst and in particular to an oxidation catalyst for cleaning the exhaust gas discharged from internal combustion engines of compression ignition type (particularly diesel engines). The invention further relates to a catalysed substrate monolith comprising an oxidising catalyst on a substrate monolith for use in treating exhaust gas emitted from a lean-burn internal combustion engine. In particular, the invention relates to a catalysed substrate monolith comprising a first washcoat coating and a second washcoat coating, wherein the second washcoat coating is disposed in a layer above the first washcoat coating.

A catalysed substrate monolithfor use in treating exhaust gas emitted from a lean-burn internal combustion engine, which catalysed substrate monolithcomprising a first washcoat coatingand a second washcoat coating, wherein the first washcoat coating comprises a catalyst composition comprising at least one platinum group metal (PGM) and at least one support material for the at least one PGM, wherein at least one PGM in the first washcoat coating is liable to volatilise when the first washcoat coating is exposed to relatively extreme conditions including relatively high temperatures, wherein the second washcoat coating comprises at least one metal oxide for trapping volatilised PGM and wherein the second washcoat coating is oriented to contact exhaust gas that has contacted the first washcoat coating.

Provided is a catalyst for the selective reduction of NOx comprising a two molecular sieve materials having a CHA structure, wherein the first molecular sieve has a mean crystal size of about 0.01 to 1 &#x3bc;m and the second molecular sieve has a mean crystal size of about 1-5 &#x3bc;m, and wherein the first molecular sieve contains a first extra-framework metal, the second molecular sieve contains a second extra-framework metal, and wherein said first and second extra-framework metals are independently selected from the group consisting of cesium, copper, nickel, zinc, iron, tin, tungsten, molybdenum, cobalt, bismuth, titanium, zirconium, antimony, manganese, chromium, vanadium, niobium, and combinations thereof.

Catalyst blends

A catalyzed filter for filtering particulate matter from exhaust gas emitted from a positive ignition internal combustion engine comprises a ceramic porous wall-flow filter substrate having a total substrate length and having inlet channels defined in part by ceramic inlet wall surfaces and outlet channels defined in part by ceramic outlet wall surfaces, wherein the inlet surfaces are separated from the outlet surfaces by a first porous structure containing pores of a first mean pore size, wherein the porous substrate is coated in part with a catalyst washcoat composition, wherein a second porous structure of a washcoated part of the porous substrate contains pores of a second mean pore size, wherein the second mean pore size is less than the first mean pore size, which catalyst washcoat composition being disposed in a first zone comprising the inlet surfaces of a first substrate length less than the total substrate length, wherein a second zone comprising the outlet surfaces of a second substrate length contains no washcoat and wherein the sum of the substrate length in the first zone and the substrate length in the second zone is &#x3e;100%.

An exhaust systemfor an internal combustion engine comprises a) a first catalysed substrate monolithcomprising a first washcoat coating disposed in a first washcoat zoneof the substrate monolith and a second washcoat coating disposed in a second washcoat zoneof the substrate monolith, wherein the first washcoat coating comprises a catalyst composition comprising at least one platinum group metal (PGM) and at least one support material, wherein at least one PGM in the first washcoat coating is liable to volatilise when the first washcoat coating is exposed to relatively extreme conditions including relatively high temperatures, wherein the second washcoat coating comprises at least one material supporting copper for trapping volatilised PGM and wherein the second washcoat coating is oriented to contact exhaust gas that has contacted the first washcoat; and b) a second catalysed substrate monolithcomprising a catalyst for selectively catalysing the reduction of oxides of nitrogen to dinitrogen with a nitrogenous reductant disposed downstream from the first catalysed substrate monolith.

Exhaust system for a lean-burn internal combustion engine including SCR catalyst

Provided is a catalyst for selective catalytic reduction of NOx in a lean-burn exhaust gas comprising a 0.8:1.0 to 1.2:1.0 blend of a metal promoted aluminosilicate having a CHA structure and a metal promoted silicoaluminophosphate having a CHA structure, respectively, wherein the silicoaluminophosphate is characterized by a higher promotion metal loading compared to the aluminosilicate.

Methods are disclosed for reducing or preventing a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst disposed on a first substrate monolith in an exhaust system of a lean-burn internal combustion engine from becoming poisoned with platinum group metal (PGM) which may volatilize from a catalyst composition comprising PGM disposed on at least one second substrate monolith upstream of the SCR catalyst. The methods comprise adsorbing volatilized PGM in at least one PGM trapping material, which is disposed on a third substrate monolith disposed between the first substrate monolith and the second substrate monolith.
