A pump is provided. The pump includes a fluid inlet section; a fluid outlet section; a stator axially between the fluid inlet section and the fluid outlet section; a rotor axially between the fluid inlet section and the fluid outlet section, the rotor and the stator defining a fluid flow space radially therebetween; a movable inlet guide configured for guiding fluid flow from the fluid inlet section into the fluid flow space; and a movable outlet guide configured for guiding fluid flow from the fluid flow space into the fluid outlet section. The rotor is rotatable inside of the stator by electromagnetic forces urging the rotor towards the stator. Rotation of the rotor inside of the stator and movement of the inlet guide and the outlet guide create a pressure in a first portion of the fluid flow space that forces fluid from the fluid flow space through the fluid outlet section and create a vacuum in a second portion of the fluid flow space that pulls fluid from the fluid inlet section into the fluid flow space. A method of forming a pump is also provided.

Integrated eccentric motor and pump

An expandable piston assembly for a clutch pack includes an apply piston, a stator, a rotor, and at least one side cover fixed to the stator. The stator is fixed to the apply piston and includes a first arcuate segment and a first radial protrusion extending from the first arcuate segment and including a distal end. The rotor is axially aligned with and rotatable relative to the stator. The rotor includes a second arcuate segment extending proximate the first radial protrusion distal end and a second radial protrusion extending from the second arcuate segment and including a distal end proximate the first arcuate segment. In some example embodiments, the first and second arcuate segments, the first and second radial protrusions, and the at least one side cover collectively form a portion of a first chamber for receiving a pressurized hydraulic fluid to rotate the rotor relative to the stator.

Expandable piston assembly

A camshaft phaser, including: a stator including radially inwardly extending protrusions with radially outermost ends; a rotor including radially outwardly extending protrusions radially outermost ends; chambers at least partially bounded by a inwardly extending protrusion and an outwardly extending protrusion; first seals disposed in the radially innermost ends and facing the rotor; second seals disposed in the radially outermost ends and facing the stator; first and second wedge plates radially disposed between the rotor and the stator; and a displacement assembly arranged to for an advance mode, displace the first wedge plate to enable rotation of the rotor, with respect to the stator, in the first circumferential direction and for a retard mode, displace the second wedge plate to enable rotation of the rotor, with respect to the stator, in a second circumferential direction opposite the first circumferential direction.

Multi-position camshaft phaser with two one-way wedge clutches and viscous damping

A clutch assembly for a motor vehicle drive train is provided. The clutch assembly includes a clutch pack; a piston for engaging the clutch pack; a housing including a surface for slidably supporting the piston; a release spring for disengaging the piston from the clutch; and a bearing supporting the clutch pack. The bearing limiting axial movement of the release spring away from the piston. A method of assembling a clutch assembly is also provided.

A rotary actuated clutch, comprising an axis of rotation, a housing, an input hub, an intermediate hub, and an output hub. For a first locked mode, the intermediate hub and the output hub are non-rotatably connected to the housing, and for a torque-transmitting mode the input hub is arranged to receive torque in a first circumferential direction, the input hub is arranged to rotate in the first circumferential direction to disengage the intermediate hub from the housing, and the intermediate hub is arranged to rotate the output hub in the first circumferential direction.

Rotary actuated clutch

A system including: at least one accessory device connected to an accessories drive shaft; a motor/generator including an input/output shaft; a first clutch arranged to receive torque from an engine and connected to the accessories drive shaft; a second clutch connected to the input/output shaft; and first and second torque transfer elements. The first torque transfer element is connected to the input/output shaft and the accessories drive shaft to reduce a rotational speed of the input/output shaft. The second torque transfer element is arranged to connect to a transmission input shaft, is connected to the second clutch, and is arranged to increase a rotational speed of the transmission input shaft. For a generator mode, the first clutch is arranged to be opened, the second clutch is arranged to be closed; and the transmission input shaft is arranged to rotate the input/output shaft via the second torque transfer element.

Accessories drive system including a transmission driven motor generator unit

A camshaft assembly, including a camshaft phaser with: stator; rotor including first plurality of circumferentially aligned ramps; and second plurality of circumferentially aligned ramps offset from the first plurality of ramps in a first axial direction; first and second wedge plates radially disposed between the rotor and the stator; and camshaft non-rotatably connected to the rotor. In a drive mode: the stator is arranged to receive first torque and to rotate in a first direction; the assembly is arranged to operate in successive cycles of a first phase followed by a second phase; in the first phase the first wedge plate non-rotatably connects the stator and the rotor while the second wedge plate is rotatable with respect to the stator; and in the second phase, the second wedge plate non-rotatably connects the stator and the rotor while the first wedge plate is rotatable with respect to the stator.

Camshaft phaser with two one-way wedge clutches

A piston assembly, comprising: a back plate with an axially extending extrusion continuously circumferentially disposed about the back plate; a piston including an indent circumferentially disposed proximate an outer circumference for the piston plate; and a sealing element at least partially disposed in the indent. The piston is fixed to the back plate with a plurality of extruded rivets such that the extrusion forms a liquid-tight seal against a surface of the piston. The indent is open in an axial direction facing the back plate. The extrusion is radially inward of the plurality of extruded rivets.

Bi-directional clip seal piston

A transmission clutch including: a carrier; a clutch pack; friction plates; a compression plate including a portion; and a first ramp ring including: a first portion in contact with the portion of the compression plate; and a second portion. The clutch includes a second ramp ring including a third portion axially aligned with the second portion; a lever spring; and a piston. The piston displaces the spring in an axial direction such that: the spring applies a force to the second portion; the first ramp ring rotates in a circumferential direction and axially displaces in the axial direction; and the first ramp ring urges the compression plate in the axial direction to contact the clutch pack. The piston displaces the lever spring further in the axial direction such that the compression plate clamps pressure plates and friction plates in the clutch pack to rotationally fix the carrier to the housing.

Gap-filling clutch with ramps

A disconnect clutch includes a hub, a carrier, a wedge plate, a friction plate, a pressure plate, and a pin. The hub has a radially outer surface with a ramp and the carrier has a radially inner surface. The wedge plate is disposed radially between the hub and the carrier. It has a radially inner surface with a ramp, proximate and complementary to the hub outer surface, a radially outer surface proximate the carrier inner surface, and a split extending from the radially inner surface to the radially outer surface. The friction plate is drivingly connected to the carrier. The pressure plate is arranged for frictionally engaging the wedge plate with the at least one friction plate. The pin is rotationally fixed and radially or axially displaceable with respect to the hub, and arranged for limiting rotation of the at least one wedge plate relative to the hub.

Locking disconnect clutch

A piston subassembly for operating a clutch of a transmission including a piston, a compensation dam, wherein the piston is axially moveable with respect to the compensation dam, and a clip operatively affixed to the piston, the clip operatively arranged between the piston and the compensation dam, the clip including at least one spring element for exerting a force between the dam and the piston to pull the piston axially away from the compensation dam, wherein the compensation dam is included on a transmission shaft, the compensation dam including a radially inner flange having a slot, wherein the slot is operatively arranged to engage with a radial protrusion on the transmission shaft for forming a twist-lock between the compensation dam and the shaft.

Clip seal with integrated return spring

A drive connection for fixing a torque converter to an engine crankshaft includes a crankshaft, a torque converter, and a threaded fastener. The crankshaft includes an end face, a rotational axis, and a threaded hole aligned with the axis. The torque converter includes a rotational axis and a cover having an aperture aligned with the axis. The threaded fastener extends through the aperture and is engaged with the threaded hole to secure the cover to the end face. In an example embodiment, the drive connection includes a sealing element disposed between the fastener and the cover. The sealing element may be a washer or an o-ring.

Torque converter drive connection

A thermal management module includes a motor with an output shaft, and a gear train connecting the output shaft to a driven gear connected to a valve for controlling coolant flow in a coolant system. At least one grille shutter is movable between an open position allowing air through the grille shutter and a dosed position preventing air through the grille shutter. A linkage connects the at least one grille shutter to the output shaft or the gear train, so that the motor is operable to control a valve operating position of the valve and a shutter operating position of the at least one shutter.

Module for controlling coolant valve and grille shutter

A starting device for a vehicle includes a spring support ring and a coiled clutch. The coiled clutch has a first end frictionally engaged with the spring support ring, a center portion connected to the first end and arranged for compressive engagement with an outer shell of a torque converter, and a second end connected to the center portion and arranged for rotational displacement in a first direction relative to the first end to compressively engage the center portion with the outer shell. In some example embodiments, the spring support ring encircles the coiled clutch. In some example embodiments, the spring support ring includes a circumferential groove for receiving the first end. In an example embodiment, a free diameter of the first end is greater than a free diameter of the center portion.

Vehicle starting device

A torque converter including a cover, a turbine pump in fluid contact with the turbine, and a pump shell connected to the cover. The torque converter includes a pump hub connected to the pump shell such that the pump shell and the pump hub are fixed with respect to rotation. The pump hub also includes a portion with a distal end having a plurality of indentations and a plurality of sloped surfaces in contact with the plurality of indentations. The plurality of sloped surfaces is arranged to receive a plurality of protrusions for a transmission pump gear and to urge the pump hub or the pump gear into rotational motion to urge the plurality of protrusions into mating engagement with the plurality of indentations.
