Oxindole compounds and compositions comprising the same

Bisurea gelling agents that impart a number of unexpected benefits within various gelled formulations and exhibit great versatility in terms of gelling capabilities for many types of solvents are provided. Such gelling agents should include pendant groups, such as sterically hindering alkyl groups attached to polyoxyalkylenated moieties that allow the gelling agent to be compatible with the target liquid system at elevated temperatures, while controlling and/or limiting the network formation and strength during the cooling cycle. Alternatively, novel gelling agents having two urea groups but that are asymmetrical in configuration have been produced in order to provide the same control in temperature, compatibility, and efficiency. Final gelled formulations, such as antiperspirant sticks and other like consumer items, are provided as well within this invention.

A coated substrate comprises a substrate and a coating on at least one surface of the substrate. The coating comprises a prepolymer, polymer, or resin produced, for example, by the reaction of (i) an isocyanate (e.g., a polyisocyanate), (ii) an active hydrogen-terminated colorant, and optionally (iii) at least one reactant selected from the group consisting of chain extenders, polyols, internal surfactants, and combinations thereof. The invention relates to a washable paint comprising about 2.5 to 10 weight percent of a high molecular weight polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight between 2,000 and 20,000, a water swellable clay in the amount of 0.5 to 1.5 weight percent; and a high molecular weight cellulosic thickener in the amount of about 1.0 to 2.5 weight percent, wherein the high molecular weight cellulosic thickener has a viscosity between 500 and 15,000 cps tested as a 2% by weight solution in water at 25&#xb0; C. using a Brookfield DV-II+ viscometer with a number 21 spindle and a speed of 2 rpm, and wherein the paint has a viscosity of between 5,000 and 50,000 cps tested on a Brookfield DV-II+ viscometer with a number 6 spindle at 10 rpm and 52&#xb0; C.

Novel magenta and cyan colorants for utilization within water-based inks are provided which exhibit improved chromatic properties. In particular, such colorants provide magenta or cyan colorations that exhibit increased color space characteristics, high water solubility, excellent compatability with impurities, and correspondingly cost-effectiveness for flexographic printing procedures. The methods of utilizing such colorants within flexographic printing processes are also encompassed within the invention.

The preferred dyes or colorants are triphenylmethane polymeric colorants which are capped with cyclic anhydride and the preferred sterically hindered amine counter ions are those based on low molecular weight fugitive tertiary amines, such as N,N-dimethylethanolamine. Compositions comprising water soluble or emulsion resins as diluents for lowered viscosity and lower overall cost are also contemplated. Furthermore, compositions comprising the inventive colorant and other pigments, dyes, surfactants, preservatives, and other colorants are contemplated. A method of making such an inventive ink composition and a cellulose-based substrate contacted with such an inventive ink composition are also disclosed.

Triphenylmethane polymeric colorant having sterically hindered amine

This invention relates to very specific oxyalkylene-substituted aminophenol compounds as intermediates for the production of poly(oxyalkylene)-substituted xanthene (or other type) colorants. Such an inventive intermediate compound is produced in a single step by reacting an oxyalkylene oxide having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms (branched or unbranched), glycidol, or a glycidyl directly with aminophenol without the use of a catalyst and at a relatively low temperature. Propylene oxide and m-aminophenol are the preferred reactants. The propylene oxide selectively reacts with the amine group on the m-aminophenol without propoxylating the phenolic hydroxyl group. Such a specific method thus does not require extra time- and cost-consuming steps of protecting the phenolic hydroxyl group from attack. After production, this intermediate may be reacted with suitable compounds to ultimately form any number of different colorants, including xanthenes, oxazines, coumarins, and the like. The resultant oxypropylene groups may subsequently be reacted with electrophile compounds to produce any number of different colorants. Resultant colorants produced through the reaction of the inventive intermediate are also contemplated within this invention.
