The present disclosure provides a method for sequencing nucleic acids. The method can include polymerase catalyzed incorporation of nucleotides into a nascent nucleic acid strand against a nucleic acid template, wherein the polymerase is attached to a charge sensor that detects nucleotide incorporation events. One or more non-natural nucleotide types that each produce a unique signatures at the charge sensor can be used to uniquely identify different nucleotides in the template nucleic acid.

Field-effect apparatus and methods for sequencing nucleic acids

A single molecule sensing device includes a first electrode, a second electrode and a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) connected to the first and second electrodes. At least one linker molecule having first and second functional groups is functionalized with a sidewall of the SWNT, the at least one linker molecule having the first functional group non-covalently functionalized with a sidewall of the single-walled carbon nanotube. Nanostructure sensing devices for detecting an analyte are described. The devices include nanostructures connected to conductive elements, all on a substrate. Contact regions adjacent to points of contact between the nanostructures and the conductive elements are given special treatment. The proportion of nanostructure surface area within contact regions can be maximized to effect sensing at very low analyte concentrations. The contact regions can be passivated in an effort to prevent interaction between the environment and the contact regions for sensing at higher analyte concentrations and for reducing cross-sensing. Both contact regions and at least some portion of the nanostructures can be covered with a material that is at least partially permeable to the analyte of interest and impermeable to some other species to tune selectivity and sensitivity of the nanostructure sensing device.

Sensitivity control for nanotube sensors

A method is provided for forming a device. The method provides a substrate, and provides a plurality of nanotubes in contact with the substrate. The method comprises depositing metal contacts on the substrate, wherein the metal contacts are in contact with a portion of at least one nanotube. The method further comprises selectively breaking the at least one nanotube using an electrical current, removing the metal contacts, cleaning a remaining nanotube, and depositing a first metal contact in contact with a first end of the nanotube and a second metal contact in contact with a second end of the nanotube.

Methodology for electrically induced selective breakdown of nanotubes

A hydrogen containing nanostructure is provided, where the hydrogen is adsorbed to the nanostructure by physisorption. The nanostructure includes light elements, selected from the second and third rows of the periodic table. The nanostructure is formed as a layered network of light elements coupled with covalent sp bonds. The chemical composition of the nanostructure can be such that the desorption temperature of hydrogen is greater than the liquefaction temperature of nitrogen, 77 K. Further, a hydrogen storage system is provided, including a container and a nanostructured storage material within the container, wherein the nanostructured storage material includes light elements, and the nanostructured storage material is capable of adsorbing hydrogen by physisorption. The hydrogen storage system can include a liquid nitrogen based cooling system, capable of cooling the nanostructured storage material below the desorption temperature of hydrogen. Some embodiments contain a heater to control the temperature of the nanostructured storage material.
