There is disclosed a method of controlling pests which comprises exposing a surface of the pest to a particulate composition containing particles of an initially unmagnetized material, which is capable of becoming magnetically polarized when subjected to an electric or magnetic field, the said particles being associated with at least one pesticide or behavior modifying chemical.

Lipid carriers

A pest control device and a method of deploying the device. The device comprises a housing provided with at least one opening which is closed or sealed by a material arranged to degrade in an environment in which the device is located, thereby allowing eventual access to the interior of the device. The method comprises providing the device with the temporarily sealed or closed opening(s), a pest behavior-modifying agent located in the interior of the device housing, and a feature for causing oscillatory motion of the housing while in free-fall motion. The device is then caused to fall from a height into or on to an area in which pest control is desired.

Insect control device

An insecticidal system for killing social insects comprises an insecticide together with a synthetic equivalent, such as 3-octanol, to at least one component of the alarm pheromone of the insect. The system is particularly effective against members of the Acromyrmex, Atta and Solenopsis species.

Pheromone baits for social insects

Pest trap

A pesticidal or herbicidal composition in particulate form which comprises composite particles. Each of said particles contains a core of an inert substance having a pesticidal herbicide associated therewith and a coating of an electrically resistive material around the core. The particles may also include a second pesticidal material adhering to the electrically resistive coating. The particles carry an electrostatic charge.

A method of attracting insects selected from the group consisting of houseflies, mosquitoes and wasps to a particular location, which method comprises placing at the said location a lure containing an effective attractant composition which comprises at least one compound which is a substituted benzenederivative having one or more short side chains, the said compound being volatile at room temperature and having a molecular weight in the range of from 115 to 155.

Insect attractant

An insect attractant for the control of fruit flies comprises linalool together with an upwind flight stimulant. Preferably, the attractant is in a slow release formulation.
