A valve system includes at least one spin chamber having an outlet drain configured to allow flow out of the spin chamber. A main spin surface of the at least one spin chamber is defined around the outlet drain. A directional jet system is in fluid communication with the at least one spin chamber. The directional jet system includes a plurality of members each is configured to move between a first position for directing a tangential flow around the drain of the at least one spin chamber and a second position for directing a radial flow toward the drain of the at least one spin chamber.

Multi-component swirl valves

A system includes a combustor for a gas turbine defining a main axis extending in an upstream-downstream direction, the combustor including a combustor dome bounding an upstream portion of the combustor, wherein a plurality of injector openings are defined through the combustor dome. An injector defines a spray axis aligned with one of the plurality of injector openings for issuing a spray into the combustor along the spray axis. An actuator is operatively connected to the injector for movement of the injector relative combustor dome to adjust a relative position of the spray axis relative to the main axis to alter the position and/or direction of the spray injector during operation of the gas turbine engine.

Positional control of fuel injection into gas turbine combustors

A fluid nozzle includes a first fluid circuit, a second fluid circuit spaced apart from the first fluid circuit and a fuel circuit. The fuel circuit is defined between the first and second fluid circuits and between a first fuel circuit wall and a second fuel circuit wall. A ring-shaped permeable barrier is positioned between the first and second fuel circuit walls configured and adapted to provide a controlled resistance to fuel flow. A fuel distributor includes a first fuel circuit wall and a second fuel circuit wall spaced apart from the first fuel circuit wall. A fuel circuit is defined between the first and second fuel circuit walls. A ring-shaped permeable barrier is positioned between first and second fuel circuit walls. A combustion assembly includes a combustor housing, a combustor dome positioned at an upstream end of the combustor housing, and a fluid nozzle positioned adjacent the combustor dome.

Fluid distributors for fluid nozzles

An atomizer includes an atomizer body with a plurality of air passages defined therethrough from an upstream end of the atomizer body to a downstream end thereof. The air passages together define an air circuit through the atomizer body. A fuel circuit is defined in the atomizer body extending from a fuel inlet to a respective fuel outlet opening into each air passage. The air passages can be arranged circumferentially about a central axis defined by the atomizer body. The fuel circuit can include a manifold extending circumferentially about the atomizer body in fluid communication with a fuel opening in each respective air passage.

Atomizers

A fuel injector for an exhaust heater includes a cover and an air blast nozzle. The cover has a nozzle seat, a fuel inlet, and an air inlet, the nozzle seat arranged along a flow axis. The air blast nozzle is seated in the nozzle seat and has a unibody. The air blast nozzle unibody is in fluid communication with the fuel inlet and the air inlet arranged along the flow axis to port fuel and air into a combustion volume, e.g., to heat a stream of exhaust gas flowing between an engine and a catalytic reactor by combustion with fuel introduced through the fuel inlet and air introduced through the air inlet.

Fuel injectors for exhaust heaters

A spray nozzle comprising a housing including a primary passage defining a primary axis, a series of secondary passages configured to provide swirl to a fluid passing therethrough circumferentially positioned around the housing, a series of standoffs circumferentially spread around an outer surface of the housing and located downstream along the primary axis of the series of swirling passages, wherein each of the swirling passages corresponds to a respective standoff of the series of standoffs, in order to control the swirl of the fluid.

Spray nozzle

A nozzle includes an outer gas flow path, an inner gas flow path radially inward from the outer gas flow path, a liquid flow path defined radially between the inner gas flow path and the outer air flow path, and a core conduit defined radially inward from the inner gas flow path. An injector assembly includes an outer housing, a nozzle within the outer housing, and an outer housing gas flow path defined radially outward from the nozzle between an inner surface of the outer housing and an outer surface of the nozzle. The nozzle includes an outer gas flow path, an inner gas flow path radially inward from the outer gas flow path, a liquid flow path defined radially between the inner gas flow path and the outer gas flow path and a core conduit defined radially inward from the inner gas flow path.

Mixing nozzles

A flow directing apparatus for directing fluid flow includes a flow body defining a bore therethrough configured and adapted to direct fluid flowing therethrough. The bore includes an outlet and an opposed inlet with an enlargement, formed as a countersink and/or a chamfer using a suitable boring device. The enlargement is configured and adapted to reduce sensitivity to entrance-edge conditions for the bore.

Flow through cylindrical bores

A fluid-gas mixer including a housing, defining a primary axis, for mixing fluid and gas, a mixer nozzle circumscribing the primary axis, wherein an annular gap between an outer surface of the mixer nozzle and an inner surface of the housing defines at least one outer gas path, a swirling gas passage defining an inner gas path for mixing with the outer gas path.

Fluid-gas mixer

A fluid spray nozzle tip can include a feed hole body that defines at least one feed hole and a spray outlet, the at least one feed hole being in direct fluid communication with the spray outlet without also being in fluid communication with an upstream spin chamber. The at least one feed hole can be a plurality of feed holes, wherein the tip further includes a pintle sealing surface body extending from the feed hole body and configured to allow a pintle to seal against a sealing surface thereof.

Fluid spray injectors

A nozzle for injecting liquid includes a nozzle body defining a flow channel and a swirl ante-chamber in fluid communication with the flow channel. An injection point orifice is defined in the swirl ante-chamber. The flow channel feeds into the swirl ante-chamber to impart a tangential flow component on fluids entering the swirl ante-chamber to generate swirl on a spray issuing from the injection point orifice. A second flow channel can be included in fluid communication with the swirl ante-chamber. The second flow channel feeds into the swirl ante-chamber in cooperation with or in opposition to the first flow channel. The first flow channel, second flow channel, and swirl ante-chamber are configured and adapted to adjust spray angle of a spray issuing from the injection point orifice by varying flow apportionment among the first and second flow channels.

Variable angle multi-point injection

A valve for regulating fluid flowing bidirectionally therethrough includes a first flow body defining a passage configured to direct fluid flow in a downstream direction defined from the inlet to the outlet. The inlet includes an enlargement configured to provide decreased resistance to fluid flow in the downstream direction relative to flow in an upstream direction opposite the downstream direction.

Directionally biased valve

A swirler, such as for swirling air in a fuel injector of a gas turbine engine, includes a swirler body with opposed inlet and outlet ends with a swirler wall extending therebetween along a longitudinal axis. The inlet end of the swirler body defines an inlet opening. A plurality of swirl slots is defined through a portion of the swirler wall that converges toward the longitudinal axis in a direction from the inlet opening toward the outlet end of the swirler body. The swirl slots are radially off-set with respect to the longitudinal axis for imparting swirl on a flow passing from the inlet opening, through the swirl slots, and past the outlet end of the swirler body.
