A fuel pre-heating component in a gas turbine engine includes a component housing extending around a central axis from a first end to a second end, wherein the component housing includes walls that define an inner chamber, a heating element positioned inside the inner chamber, and a plurality of internal fuel channels disposed within the component housing and configured to be heated by the heating element.

Fuel preheating for fuel injection

A combustor assembly for a turbomachine includes a combustor housing defining a combustion chamber. The combustor housing includes an inlet portion, an outlet portion, and an axial axis extending between the inlet portion and the outlet portion. A first annular plenum is arranged at the inlet portion. The first annular plenum includes a first inlet and a first outlet. A second annular plenum radially spaced from the first annular plenum is arranged at the inlet portion. The second annular plenum includes a second inlet, a second outlet, a vortex inducing member arranged between the second inlet and the second outlet, and a fuel outlet. The second outlet includes a pre-filming surface that forms an annular ring of fuel that enters the second annular plenum through the fuel outlet and passes from the second annular plenum into a swirling fluid passing through the first outlet and the second outlet.

An air shroud for a nozzle includes an air shroud body defining an inlet and an outlet in fluid communication with one another to allow an outer airflow to issue therefrom. The air shroud also includes an air wipe disposed outboard of the air shroud body including a web defining a plurality of air wipe outlets in fluid communication with a downstream surface of the air shroud body such that air can flow through the air wipe outlets and wipe the downstream surface of the air shroud body. The air wipe can be integral with the air shroud body.

A fuel injector includes a feed arm with an inlet end and a nozzle body extending from the feed arm at an end opposite the inlet end. The nozzle body defines a prefilming chamber that opens into an annular outlet orifice for issuing a spray therefrom. A plurality of fuel circuits is defined from the inlet end of the feed arm to the prefilming chamber of the nozzle body. Each fuel circuit in the plurality of fuel circuits can include a single respective inlet opening at the inlet end of the feed arm, with a single respective conduit extending through the feed arm and nozzle body from the single respective inlet opening to a single respective outlet slot feeding into the prefilming chamber.

Fuel staging

An atomizer includes an atomizer body with a plurality of air passages defined therethrough from an upstream end of the atomizer body to a downstream end thereof. The air passages together define an air circuit through the atomizer body. A fuel circuit is defined in the atomizer body extending from a fuel inlet to a respective fuel outlet opening into each air passage. The air passages can be arranged circumferentially about a central axis defined by the atomizer body. The fuel circuit can include a manifold extending circumferentially about the atomizer body in fluid communication with a fuel opening in each respective air passage.

Atomizers

A nozzle includes a nozzle body defining longitudinal axis with a liquid circuit extending axially in a downstream direction from a liquid inlet to a spray orifice, and an air circuit, e.g. an inner air circuit, extending axially downstream from an upstream air inlet to an air outlet proximate the spray orifice. An air swirler, e.g., an inner air swirler is mounted in the air circuit, wherein at least a portion of the air swirler is flush with or protrudes axially upstream relative to the air inlet.

Air entrance effect

A nozzle is provided including a fuel swirler having an outer wall, an interior wall, and a fuel flow path configured to receive a fuel flow. The fuel flow path extends from adjacent and inlet end of the nozzle to a discharge end of the nozzle and is arranged between the outer wall and the interior wall. The fuel flow path includes a first inlet portion and a volute. The first inlet portion is generally offset from a center of the fuel swirler.

Offset stem fuel distributor

A fuel system includes an external cool air source, and a fuel injector. The fuel injector includes a fuel circuit, an outer air circuit, an inner air circuit, and an outlet. The fuel circuit receives liquid fuel from a fuel inlet. The outer air circuit receives cool air from the cool air source and substantially surrounds the fuel circuit. The inner air circuit is in fluid communication with the outer air circuit and a portion of the fuel circuit substantially surrounds the inner air circuit. The outlet provides atomized fuel from the fuel circuit, outer air circuit and inner air circuit to a combustor.

Three-piece airblast fuel injector

A fuel injector for a gas turbine engine includes a nozzle tip assembly having a substantially monolithically formed nozzle body. The nozzle body has an annular outlet chamber for issuing a spray from the nozzle tip. A feed channel is in fluid communication with the outlet chamber through a feed passage. A heat shield void substantially surrounds the feed channel(s).

Integrated heat shield

An apparatus and method for minimizing and/or preventing thermal degradation of fuel in a fuel injector is disclosed. The body of the injector includes a fuel gallery with a contoured scarf formed therein. The scarf is configured to minimize and/or prevent fuel recirculation thus reducing the likelihood that fuel will dwell in an area long enough to sufficient to cause the degradation of the fuel.
