Systems and methods are provided to enable a near-end receiver to control the far-end transmitter's data transmission such that the near-end receiver's TC data buffers do not overflow. In an embodiment, a high waterline and low waterline implemented into a near-end receiver are used to determine when the near-end receiver's TC data buffers are near maximum capacity. In an embodiment, the near-end receiver transmits a Packet Transfer Mode (PTM) All Idle Out Of Sync (AIOOS) codeword to the far-end transmitter when the high waterline is reached, and the near-end receiver stops transmitting the AIOOS codeword when the low waterline is reached.

Systems and methods for flow control of a remote transmitter

Methods and apparatuses for reducing effects of impulse noise in a DSL transmitter receiver device are described. According to certain embodiment, the method includes comparing a hard decision output of a decoder with a soft decision output for a convolution coded modulation symbol received at a digital subscriber line (DSL) receiver. The presence of impulse noise is detected based on a lack of agreement between the hard decision output and the soft decision output.

A system and method for efficiently correcting block errors in packet-based digital communications are provided whereby the ratio of redundant symbols/message symbols over the length of a data packet decreases in order to more efficiently use available bandwidth. The reduction of this ratio, and subsequently the change in a corresponding framing schedule, may be determined through negotiations between the transmitting device and the receiving devices. Each receiving device calculates a redundancy requirement based on signal-to-noise ratio samples. This requirement is returned to the transmitting device in the form of a schedule request. The transmitting device determines if a new framing schedule is needed based on the schedule request, and communicates this new framing schedule to the receiving device. Once the receiving device acknowledges receipt of the new schedule, the transmitting device switches to the new framing schedule for future data packet transmissions.

System and method for block error correction in packet-based digital communications

A detector for detecting packet arrival time for packets received by a Home Phoneline Network Alliance (HPNA) receiver. The detector correlates received preamble symbols with stored preamble symbols and generates an estimation of the packet arrival time when the entire transmitted preamble has arrived at the receiver. The estimation of the packet arrival time is defined on a symbol period boundary. The detector includes a complex correlator with a simplified structure based on characteristic of the received HPNA signal.

An interpolating bandpass filter for packet-data receiver synchronization comprises a single delay line that delays the passband-sampled data from the analog-to-digital converter, and a convolving structure that uses the delay line to implement a L-times oversampling bandpass filter. A separate accumulator accumulates a fractional phase difference that represents the frequency offset between the remote transmitter's frequency and the receiver's sampling frequency. The integer portion of the accumulator is used to determine the number of samples to delay the input of the filter, while the fractional portion is used to choose two coefficient sets closest to the desired delay and to interpolate between these two filter sets.

An efficient demodulation and low pass filter structure comprises a shift-add-negate structure that effectively multiplies each received sample by a combined demodulation and filter coefficient, and an accumulator that accumulates the products. Low pass filter coefficients are selected such that the shift-add-negate structure implements multiplications by shifts, adds, and negations. In the preferred embodiment, the demodulation and low pass filter structure outputs three complex samples per symbol.
