Methods and systems are provided for a water jacket diverter. In one example, the water jacket diverter may be formed by injection molding and includes features such as cut-outs, an inlet ledge, a continuous upper rail, and one or more fins. The water jacket diverter may increase coolant flow in an upper portion of the water jacket, thereby increasing a cooling efficiency at an upper region of a cylinder block.

Flow-directing water jacket diverter

Methods and systems are provided for a water jacket diverter. In one example, a water jacket diverter for a cylinder block is provided that includes a masking wall arranged above a rail and including a tuning section having a reduced thickness when compared to a remainder of the masking wall. The water jacket diverter also includes a tuning ledge adjacent to the masking wall and extending outward from the masking wall with regard to a cylinder bore axis.

Water jacket diverter and method for operation of an engine cooling system

A structural frame is provided herein. The structural frame may provide a lubrication passage that feeds a lubricant to a cylinder block. The structural frame may increase cylinder block strength while allowing a cylinder block to be constructed of less material.

Cylinder block assembly

An engine has a cylinder head defining an intake port with a roof defining first and second valve guide bores upstream of first and second siamesed intake valve seats for a cylinder. The head has first and second asymmetric fairings extending outwardly from the roof and positioned directly upstream of respective bores. Each fairing has an inner wall intersecting an outer wall along an upstream edge and an inclined planar roof wall extending between the inner and outer walls. A method of forming the cylinder head and engine is also provided by milling the fairings from a roof preform formed with the intake port of the head.

An engine is provided with a cylinder head having a bridge region surrounded by an exhaust face, an exhaust passage intersecting the exhaust face, and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) passage fluidly coupled to the exhaust passage and intersecting the exhaust face. The head defines an upper cooling jacket having a cavity or fluid passage extending from the jacket towards a head deck face and to a closed end wall within the bridge region. The cylinder head is cooled by directing coolant from a lower jacket to an upper jacket via a drill passage adjacent to an exhaust face of the head, diverting the coolant exiting the drill passage into the fluid passage or cavity along a rib. Coolant is then directed from the fluid passage into an EGR cooling passage formed by the upper jacket adjacent to the exhaust face and about the EGR passage.

Cylinder head of an internal combustion engine

An engine is provided with a cylinder head defining a coolant jacket therein that is formed from a series of passages interconnected by a series of curved junctions to direct coolant about spark plugs, exhaust valves, and an integrated exhaust manifold in the head. The cooling jacket has a first longitudinal passage with an annular section about a spark plug, a second longitudinal passage with an annular section about an exhaust valve, and a third passage surrounding an integrated exhaust manifold and fluidly connecting the first and second passages. The first passage has a continuously decreasing area and the second passage has a continuously increasing area in a direction of coolant flow.

Methods and systems are provided for a 2-port integrated exhaust manifold for an inline-3, inline-6, V-6, and/or V-12 engine. In one example, a system may include an exhaust manifold integrated within a cylinder head of an engine block. The integrated exhaust manifold may include a first set of two runners from a first outer cylinder coupled to a first manifold exhaust port, a second set of two runners of a second outer cylinder coupled to a second manifold exhaust port, and one runner of an inner cylinder coupled to the first manifold exhaust port and another runner of the inner cylinder coupled to the second manifold exhaust port.

A cylinder block is provided. The cylinder block includes a cylinder, two crankshaft supports at a bottom of the cylinder block, a cylinder head engaging surface at a top of the cylinder block, and first and second exterior sidewalls, the first exterior sidewall extending from the cylinder head engaging surface to a first structural frame engaging surface positioned above a centerline of the two crankshaft supports.

Cylinder block

A cylinder block assembly is provided. The cylinder block assembly includes a cylinder block including a cylinder, two crankshaft supports at a bottom of the cylinder block, first and second cylinder block exterior sidewalls ending above a centerline of the two crankshaft supports. The cylinder block assembly further includes a structural frame coupled to the cylinder block, the structural frame including first and second structural frame exterior sidewalls extending above the centerline of the two crankshaft supports and coupled to the first and second cylinder block exterior sidewalls.

A cylinder block including a cylinder and two crankshaft supports at a bottom of the cylinder block is described. The cylinder block may be coupled to a structural frame such that the cylinder block is lubricated through the structural frame. The cylinder block may reduce vehicle weight and cost.

A heat recovery system for an engine is provided herein. According to one approach, the heat recovery system includes an upstream portion that circumferentially wraps around an outlet of an exhaust manifold. Further, the heat recovery system includes a downstream portion in direct surface contact with a top exterior surface and a bottom exterior surface of a plurality of runners of the exhaust manifold.

Heat recovery system for a vehicle

An engine is has a cylinder block defining a cylinder and a block cooling jacket having an open passage along a block deck face, and a cylinder head having an exhaust bridge conduit. A head gasket is placed between the block and the head and defines first and second apertures connecting the open passage of the block cooling jacket to the exhaust bridge conduit. A cylinder head has a deck face, and a cooling jacket. The cooling jacket has a passage formed by an inlet channel with a conduit at one end and extending into an exhaust bridge between adjacent exhaust ports. The inlet channel intersects the deck face and is elongated along a longitudinal axis of the cylinder head. The inlet channel has a convex surface positioned between opposed ends of the channel and extending away from the deck face.

A structural frame is provided. The structural frame includes a bottom surface, first and second cylinder block sidewall engaging surfaces, the first and second cylinder block sidewall engaging surfaces positioned above the bottom surface at a height that is above a centerline of a crankshaft support included in a cylinder block when the structural frame is coupled to the cylinder block.

An oil baffle, a system, and a method are disclosed for separating a gaseous component from oil in a blow-by vapor for an internal combustion engine. An example system may include a cam cover configured to be mounted on a cylinder head. The system may also include an oil baffle that may have a generally planar body with a first face and a second face opposite the first face. The first face may be coupled to the cam cover and may define an oil separation chamber between the cam cover and the first face. The oil baffle may include one or more stiffening members coupled to and extending from and substantially normal to the second face.

Structural oil baffle for engine covers

An oil baffle, a system, and a method are disclosed for separating a gaseous component from oil in a blow-by vapor for an internal combustion engine. An example system may include a cam cover configured to be mounted on a cylinder head. The system may also include an oil baffle including a first face coupled to the cam cover and may define an oil separation chamber between the cam cover and the first face. The oil baffle may include one or more stiffening members coupled to and extending from and substantially normal to an opposite face in order to reduce noise.
