A method includes determining a need to perform a learn cycle on a battery in a processing module of an information handling system, detecting a learn cycle in progress on another battery in another processing module of the information handling system, and postponing the learn cycle on the battery in response to detecting the learn cycle on the other battery.

Battery management system

An information handling system includes a first managed system including a first processor and a first management controller and a second managed system including a second processor and a second management controller. The first management controller is coupled to directly communicate with the second management controller. In an embodiment, the first management controller is coupled to the second management controller via a first I2C interface.

A system and method for interpreting sensor data utilizing virtual sensors includes a plurality of physical sensors having a sensor number, a virtual sensor repository including a plurality of virtual sensors and an event log, a management controller, and one or more agents and allows for a central repository for a plurality of sensor values and a consistent and uniform view of system health. The management controller associates each of the physical sensors with one or more of the virtual sensors utilizing the sensor numbers. The management controller further stores within each of the associated virtual sensors the sensor value from the physical sensor associated with the associated virtual sensor. The one or more agents request and receive the sensor value for a desired physical sensor from one or more of the virtual sensors located in the virtual sensor repository instead of directly from the desired physical sensor.

System and method for interpreting sensor data utilizing virtual sensors

A communications system for multiple computer system management circuits to enable remote management of the computer systems via a remote management system. The management circuits are operably coupled to a remote connector circuit via a communications bus (e.g. a bus conforming to the RS-485 communications standard). The remote connector circuit can be implemented on a daughter card of one of the computer systems. The remote connector circuit includes modem circuitry for providing operating information on operating conditions of the computer systems to a remote management system and for receiving operating commands to be provided to the management circuits wherein the computer systems initiate operations (e.g. rebooting and power cycle) in response to receiving the commands. The RS-485 bus is configured in a daisy chain configuration to allow for a simplified addition of new computer systems to the bus.

Communications system for multiple computer system management circuits

A computer having a peripheral device emulator capable of emulating peripheral devices, thereby allowing a mouse to be physically connected to the computer system and function normally despite not being initialized at the time of system startup or reset. The peripheral device emulator, implemented in the computer system's keyboard controller, operates in conjunction with a password lock mode and also operates at the time of system startup or reset. The peripheral device emulator accepts commands, status requests, and other control signals directed from the CPU and responds appropriately. Initialization commands sent from the CPU are stored for transfer to the emulated peripheral device when the device is physically connected to the computer system.

A trackball enable/disable system is disclosed for use in a personal computer to permit selective activation and deactivation of a trackball or mouse device. The system includes a keyboard controller that detects the selection of a hot key (or combination of keys) by the operator, and in response either enables or disables the trackball. In one embodiment, the controller includes an associated flag, and sets or reset a the flag in response to hot key selection. Signals from the trackball are received by the keyboard controller and assembled in preparation for transmission to the CPU. Before the trackball data is transmitted to the CPU, the status of the flag is checked to determine if the trackball is enabled or disabled. If disabled, the trackball data is not sent to the CPU. In an alternative embodiment, a pair of switches are provided between the trackball and the controller. If the hot key is selected, the keyboard controller connects or disconnects the trackball by an appropriate control signal to the switches on a control line.

System for selectively coupling trackball and mouse through a switch

Method and apparatus for automatically increasing the visibility of an LCD during warm-up thereof is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the system of the present invention comprises brightness control circuitry electrically connected to an LCD panel of a portable personal computer (PC) or other battery operated electronic device for controlling the brightness level of the LCD. The brightness control circuitry is also electrically connected to receive a signal indicative of a brightness control level selected by a user using a user-settable control means, such as a brightness control knob located on the device. In operation, on power up of the LCD, the brightness control circuitry increases the LCD brightness to a maximum level, regardless of the brightness level selected by the user. Once the LCD has warmed up, the brightness control circuitry decreases the brightness level of the LCD to the level selected by the user. In one aspect of the invention, the brightness level is decreased incrementally such that its occurrence is virtually undetectable by the user.

Technique for increasing the visibility of an LCD panel during warm-up

A small computer architecture in which the CPU can receive multiple kinds of interrupt signals, including one kind which is assigned to indicate the occurrence of a keystroke input and another kind which is assigned to indicate the occurrence of a pointing device input. However, the computer does not include any pointing device as such. Instead, the keyboard microprocessor (i.e. a microprocessor other than the CPU) monitors user keystrokes to the computer's keyboard, and: in response to simple keystrokes, or keystroke combinations which include one of the basic chording keys, the keyboard microprocessor sends a keystroke interrupt to the CPU; and in response to keystroke combinations which include an additional chording key, the keyboard microprocessor sends a pointing-device interrupt to the CPU, and provides a data output corresponding to an emulated pointing-device movement.
