A solid blunt and a needle assembly having a solid blunt. The solid blunt helps to prevent accidental needle sticks. In one exemplary embodiment, a solid blunt has an outer dimension (e.g. outer diameter) which is nearly equal to an inner dimension (e.g. inner diameter) of a cannula of a needle which is configured to contain the solid blunt. In one example, the solid blunt substantially blocks fluid flow in a first circumferential portion of an inner diameter of the cannula and allows fluid flow in a second circumferential portion of the inner diameter. The solid blunt is typically capable of longitudinal movement through the cannula and is prevented from moving substantially in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal movement. A needle assembly, in another exemplary embodiment, includes a solid blunt, a cannula and a clip which couples slidably the solid blunt to a frame which is coupled to the cannula. The present invention may be used with medical devices including needles, introducers and catheters and other devices as well.

Solid blunt for a needle assembly

According to one aspect of the invention, a medical package is provided which includes a housing, and a catheter product. The housing defines an enclosure which is sealed against ingress of contaminants. The housing has at least a first part and a second part which is movable relative to the first part to open the enclosure. At least one of the parts has a plurality of pores through which a sterilization fluid can enter the enclosure, but which substantially prevent entry of contaminants into the enclosure. The catheter product includes a body, and a vascular access member. The vascular access member has a first end and a second, vascular entry end. The first end is secured to the body and the second end is located distant from the body. The catheter product is located entirely within the enclosure. The catheter product is secured in position to the housing. The catheter product is removed from the housing after the second part is moved relative to the first part to open the enclosure.

Packaging of catheter products

A process for progressive wire formation is disclosed, comprising rotating a primary roller having a circumferential forming groove configured to receive a wire to be formed. A first stage roller having a circumferential forming groove configured to receive a wire to be formed engages the primary roller at a first contact point. A second stage roller having a circumferential forming groove configured to receive a wire to be formed engages the primary roller at a second contact point. A predetermined length of wire is run into the forming groove of the primary roller. The wire is compressed within the first stage roller forming groove at the first contact point and compressed within the second stage roller forming groove at the second contact point.
