Liner having an induction heat sealable layer for sealing to a rim of a container, and a pull tab for ease of removal of the liner from the container rim. An insert is disposed between multilayer upper and lower components, has a heat bondable polyolefin layer that is thermally laminated to polyolefin layers of the upper and lower components, forming a pull tab between the integrated polyolefin layers. The resulting composite resists delamination and can be formed in a single thermal lamination step, avoiding the multiple lamination steps, associated high equipment costs, and complex layer constructions of the prior art.

A plastic preform, container or article includes a multilayer wall having at least one layer of a matrix resin, at least one layer of a barrier resin, an adhesion-promoting material blended with the barrier resin and/or matrix resin, and an active oxygen barrier composition blended with the barrier resin and/or matrix resin. The adhesion-promoting material promotes bonding between the barrier and matrix resin layers and includes an amine polymer, preferably an imine polymer having a number of available primary, secondary or tertiary amine groups. The matrix resin preferably is an ester-containing resin, such as PET. The barrier resin preferably is EVOH. The active oxygen barrier composition includes a metal with an additive compound, and may also include a host polymer.

A dispensing valve includes a resiliently flexible mounting portion, a resiliently flexible opening portion disposed radially inwardly of the mounting portion, and a resiliently flexible isolating portion disposed radially between and coupled to the mounting and opening portions. The isolating portion extends both radially outwardly and axially to form a first radial space between the opening and isolating portions, and is spaced radially inwardly of the mounting portion to form a second radial space between the mounting and isolating portions. The opening portion may include one or more slits.

A child-resistant dispensing closure for a container may include one or the other or both of a dispensing cover non-removably securable to a container, or an outer cover non-removably securable and rotatable with respect to the inner cover and cooperable with the dispensing cover to render the closure child-resistant. According to another embodiment, an outer cover may include a flange to aid users in pushing and turning the outer cover with their fingers.

A plastic container or preform includes a multilayer wall having at least one layer of polyester resin, at least one layer of barrier resin, and an adhesion-promoting material blended with the barrier resin and/or the polyester resin to promote bonding between the barrier and polyester layers. The adhesion-promoting material includes an organometallic coupling agent based upon titanium, zirconium or aluminum. The organometallic coupling agent preferably has an amino end group with an affinity for carboxylic end groups in the polyester, and preferably is selected from the group consisting of neopentyl(diallyl)oxy, tri(N-ethylenediamino) ethyl titanate, zirconate and aluminate. Coupling agents based upon titanium and zirconium are particularly preferred for containers and preforms having a clear (non-colored) wall.

A plastic container, preform or article includes a multilayer wall having at least one layer of matrix resin, at least one layer of barrier resin, and an adhesion-promoting material blended with the barrier resin and/or the matrix resin to promote bonding between the barrier and matrix layers. The matrix resin preferably is an ester-containing resin, most preferably a polyester such as PET. The adhesion-promoting material includes an amine polymer, preferably an imine polymer having a plurality of available primary, secondary or tertiary amine groups. An alkylene imine polymer is preferred, particularly a polyethyleneimine polymer.

Delamination-resistant multilayer container, preform, article and method of manufacture

A plastic closure includes a closure shell having a base wall, a peripheral skirt with an internal thread for securing the closure to a container finish, and an annular lip extending from the closure skirt adjacent to the base wall and defining an inside lip surface at an acute angle to the closure base wall. A liner is compression molded in situ onto the base wall and peripherally within the lip. The liner has a liner base portion extending along the base wall and a peripheral portion extending along the inside surface of the lip. The liner has an interior surface&#x2014;i.e., facing away from the shell base wall and skirt&#x2014;that has a first flat axially facing portion on the base portion of the liner adjacent to the peripheral portion, an inwardly concave portion where the base portion blends into the peripheral portion of the liner, a second flat axially facing portion at an edge of the peripheral portion of the liner, and a conical portion that extends from a radially outer edge of the second flat portion to the inside surface of the lip. Provision of the second flat axially facing surface portion at the periphery of the liner has been found to reduce tearing of the liner and separation of layers in the liner when the liner is of layered construction.
