Disclosed are downforce feedback systems for active aerodynamic devices, methods for making/using such systems, and vehicles equipped with a closed-loop downforce feedback system to govern operation of the vehicle's active aero device(s). A feedback control system for operating an active aerodynamic device of a motor vehicle includes one or more pressure sensors for detecting fluid pressures in one or more pneumatic or hydraulic actuators for moving the active aero device. A vehicle controller receives fluid pressure signals from these sensor(s), and calculates an actual downforce value from these signal(s). The controller retrieves a calibrated downforce value from mapped vehicle downforce data stored in memory, and determines if the actual downforce value differs from the calibrated value. If so, the controller determines a target position for a target downforce value for a current vehicle operating condition, and commands the actuator(s) to move the active aero device to the target position.

Downforce feedback systems and control logic for active aerodynamic devices of motor vehicles

A crank permission system includes first and second permission modules and a crank module. The first permission module selectively generates a first permission signal, based on a first gear range engaged within a transmission, when an ignition system transitions to crank. The second permission module selectively generates a second permission signal, based on (i) the first gear range stored when the ignition system last transitioned to off and (ii) a second gear range of the transmission requested by a driver using a transmission range selector, when the ignition system transitions to crank. The crank module begins cranking an engine via a starter, in response to the generation of at least one of the first and second permission signals, when the ignition system of the vehicle transitions to crank.

The hydraulic control system includes a source of pressurized hydraulic fluid that communicates with an electronic transmission range selection (ETRS) subsystem. A biasing member is disposed within the base and the cover and located axially between the piston and the cover. The base and the cover are plastic.
