An improved method and apparatus for bounce crimp texturizing thermoplastic yarn. The process and apparatus are characterized by a unique control system wherein either yarn thickness or a minute accumulation of the yarn discharged from the texturizer is sensed and the tension on the yarn controlled in response thereto so as to permit the yarn to issue from the texturizer in a loosely compacted tensionless state without significant intermediate yarn accumulation or piling prior to being continuously wound into packages. By eliminating substantial intermediate accumulation or piling of the yarn, the process and apparatus substantially reduce tangles, thereby reducing breakage and random crimpless lengths produced by the pulling on the yarn caused by these tangles.

Bounce crimping apparatus

An improved method and apparatus for texturizing thermoplastic yarn. The process and apparatus are characterized by a unique control system which facilitates accumulatorless operation and which allows two or more yarns to be texturized at the same time and wound on the same winder spindle. The control system is adapted to sense relative high and low yarn tension and to control tension to control wound yarn length to ensure that equal lengths of each yarn are collected (wound) on the winder spindle without over tensioning the yarn and without intermediate yarn accumulation.

Texturizing process

Multi-filament thermoplastic bounce crimped yarns having improved fiber-fiber coherency and intermediate non-entangled yarns and methods and apparatus for making such yarns. The process is characterized by the use of a novel bounce crimper which produces a bounce crimped yarn substantially free of filament loops and filament entanglement which is then fluid vortex interlaced to produce a very fiber-fiber coherent yarn.

Process for bounce crimp texturizing yarn

Improvements in thermoplastic yarn rebound texturizing method are provided by advancing a plurality of continuous filament yarns at different speeds into a stream of heated fluid advancing longitudinally of the yarns, hurling the yarns toward a foraminous surface by means of the stream of fluid while passing at least part of the stream of fluid through the surface, impinging the advancing yarns on the foraminous surface with sufficient force to induce compression crimps in the filament of at least the faster fed yarn, instantaneously rebounding the yarns from the foraminous surface, and continuously controlling the actual compaction of the yarn as it moves away from the crimping zone. The rates of advancement of the yarns respective to the fluid stream are such that at least one yarn is introduced into the system at a rate at least twice the rate of the other. The result is a novel yarn in which the more slowly fed yarn serves as a core and the more rapidly fed yarn serves as a cover or 'effect' yarn with its filaments providing rebound texturized loops protruding laterally from the core. The crimped filaments are entangled with one another and the effect yarn is entangled with the core to give the yarn product stability and integrity, permitting it to be processed into fabrics and the like on conventional equipment. An additional slub yarn effect may be achieved by slowing the core yarn feed, thus periodically forming overfed yarn slubs or nodules on the effect yarn product.

Improvements in thermoplastic yarn rebound texturizing methods

An annularly segmented generally cylindrical pick-up container is disclosed for use in combination with bounce crimping apparatus which texturizes a multi-filament yarn of synthetic resinous material. The container includes a plurality of annular baffles which divide the container into a corresponding plurality of substantially annular chambers. The container is rotated while a texturized multi-filament yarn of synthetic resinous material is deposited into the annular chambers. As one chamber becomes full, the rotational axis of the container is moved to a new position so that the texturized material will begin filling the next radially outwardly adjacent annular chamber.
