An ocular prosthesis includes a display device visible at an anterior portion of the ocular prosthesis. The display device is configured to present a changeable image that represents a natural appearance and movement for a visible portion of an eyeball of a subject. A system includes, besides the ocular prosthesis, an implant marker configured to move with an orbital implant disposed in an eye socket of a subject. A method includes determining a change in orientation of an orbital implant in a subject and determining an update to a natural appearance for a visible portion of an eyeball for the subject based on the change in orientation of the orbital implant. The method also includes rendering an update to an image of the natural appearance for a display device disposed in an ocular prosthesis configured to be inserted in the subject anterior to the orbital implant.

An enclosure and a method for dispersing heat generated by an electrical component within the enclosure is provided and includes associating the electrical component with a conductive via/trace such that the conductive via/trace absorbs the heat generated by the electrical component, wherein the conductive via/trace is constructed from a heat conducting material; directing heat generated by the electrical component away from the electrical component by associating the conductive via/trace with a column having a column wall that defines a column cavity communicated with a column first opening and a column second opening, wherein the column wall is thermally conductive to receive heat flowing into the at least one of the plurality of columns; and allowing an airflow to flow through the column first opening into the column cavity and out of the column second opening, such that the airflow contacts the column wall within the column cavity.

A circuit for detecting a phase error between a clock signal and a beam position includes a beam generator, sensor, and phase detector. The beam generator directs a beam toward a beam sweeper in response to a clock signal. The sensor, which is disposed at a mid line of a region that the beam sweeper scans, detects the beam from the beam sweeper, and the phase detector detects an error in the clock phase from the detected beam. Such a circuit can automatically detect the phase error in the pixel clock and correct this error, thus eliminating the need for a manual phase-error corrector.

A scanned beam display is operable to compensate for variations in apparent pixel brightness arising from variations in beam scanning velocity and/or pixel dwell times. A compensation circuit modifies pixel values according to their scanning velocity and/or dwell time.

A scanning control circuit generates a clock signal corresponding to an expected scan timing of a resonant scanner. In one approach, the control circuit uses a pair of direct digital synthesis (DDS) integrated circuits. A first DDS chip provides a system clock that is synchronized to the monitored period of the scanner. A second DDS chip generates a frequency chirped signal that has a frequency profile corresponding to a desired pixel clock timing. To control phase precisely, four complementary clock signals are weighted and mixed at light source drivers to produce relative phase shifts for different light sources.
