The present invention includes methods for investigating a site for possible selective removal of sediment containing a contaminant. The methods include calculating an adjusted contaminant concentration for sediment zones on the site. The site preferably contains a water course. The methods may also include determining whether sediment zone need remediation by comparing the adjusted contaminant concentration to a standard. The invention also includes a system for carrying out the described methods, at least partially implemented in a computer.

Geomorphology for environmental remediation process and systems

The present invention uses one or more sediment survey techniques to map the sediment of a water course in three dimensions. The sediment survey techniques result in sediment definition that may be used to identify zones of sediment (whether areas or volumes) that are likely to contain contaminants. This may be based on the identity of the sediment, the location of the sediment in the water course, the depth of the sediment and/or the thickness of the sediment layer. In one embodiment, the sediment survey techniques, and the resulting sediment definition, may be used in combination with geomorphology techniques to calculate an adjusted contaminant concentration for sediment zones. Based on the adjusted contaminant concentrations for a site, selective sediment removal may be used to achieve the most effective removal of contaminant with the least of sediment removal or sediment testing.

Geomorphology for environmental remediation processes and systems including sediment survey

A water-based metalworking fluid is comprised of a polymeric boron species which includes at least B, N and H, together with a surfactant operable to provide an emulsion of the boron species with water. The polymeric boron species may be a polyborane or a borazine polymer and may be configured as a polyborane or borazine polymer backbone having side chains pendent thereupon. The side chains may include silicon and/or phosphorous. The silicon may be in the form of a silane or a siloxane species, including polymeric species. Disclosed are specific compositions as well as methods for using the compositions and methods for making the compositions.

Water-based metalworking fluid incorporating polymeric boron materials

According to the methods, a site is investigated for possible selective removal of sediment containing a contaminant. Geomorphology environmental remediation process and systems

A removable handle for use with a wheelchair having two handles includes a handgrip crossbar which has two ends, two support posts, each of which is hollow and has a wall, and two connectors. The handgrip crossbar is coupled to one of the two ends of the handgrip crossbar in spaced parallel relation. Each connector connects one of the handles to the other end of one of the support posts. Each connector is cylindrical and has a first end, a second end and a wall. The connector is fixedly coupled to one of the two handles. The connector is slidably and detachably coupled to one of the support posts. Each support post has a hole in the wall. The connector has an inner surface with a groove adjacent to its first end. The connector also has a flat spring and a disc. The flat spring is disposed in one of the support posts. Each disc is fixedly coupled to one of the flat springs and is inserted in its hole. When each support post is inserted into one of the connectors, the groove securely engages the disc.

Removable handles for mounting on the handles of a wheelchair

A soil remediation system (10) for removing contaminants (11) from a contaminated area (12) located in the vadose zone (13) of the earth and comprising multiplicity of stratigraphic zones, contaminants and compositions (26, 28), is disclosed. The system (10) comprises a first circulator (32) for circulating gas through the first zone (26) at a first volumetric rate and a second circulator (38) for circulating gas through the second zone (28) at a second volumetric rate to carry the contaminants in each respective zone (26, 28) to the surface of the earth (15). The system (10) includes a zero or low permeability membrane or layer (34) positioned between the first and second zone (26, 28) to control the commingling of the first and second volumetric flow rates so as to allow removal of contaminates in the first zone (26) independent of the removal of contaminates in the second zone (28).
