An oven appliance or rack assembly may include a rack frame and a non-permeable cook plate. The rack frame may extend along a transverse direction between a front end and a rear end. The rack frame may define a permeable support surface. The non-permeable cook plate may be selectively disposed on the rack frame. The non-permeable cook plate may include a rear nose rotatably attached to the rack frame at the front end.

A cooktop appliance includes a bimetallic switch is positioned adjacent an electrical heating element. A first electrical conduit is coupled to a first terminal of the electrical heating element and is configured to operate at a first voltage, L1, with respect to ground. A second electrical conduit is configured to operate at a second voltage, L2, with respect to ground. A relay is configured such that the relay connects the second electrical conduit to a second terminal of the electrical heating element when the bimetallic switch is in the first configuration and is also configured such that the relay connects a neutral electrical conduit to the second terminal of the electrical heating element when the bimetallic switch is in the second configuration.

Mounting for a window in an oven appliance is provided so as to allow for thermal expansion during oven use. More particularly, an expansion zone is provided around the window such that, during heating of the window from oven operation, the window is allowed to expand without restraint that could cause cracking or shattering. Space can be allowed for both lateral and longitudinal expansion of the window.

An oven rack is received in an oven above a lower surface of the chamber and having a bake element mounted in the chamber either above or below the lower surface. The oven rack is configured to support cooking ware on one of the lower surface of the oven chamber or on rack shelf portions provided in sidewalls of the chamber. The rack includes a first portion having a substantially planar top surface, a second portion having a substantially planar lower surface spaced from the top surface and it is also configured to support the rack in one of the rack shelf portions or on the lower surface of the oven chamber. First and second walls extend between these first and second portions whereby the walls have a first dimension slightly greater than a height from the bottom surface of the oven chamber to a top of the bake element when the bake element is mounted above the lower surface.

A method and apparatus are described for providing top heat to assist with baking in an oven appliance having a gas bake burner. The top heat is provided by a heating element positioned in the top of the oven cavity. This top heating element is operated in a manner that assists the bottom, gas bake burner with properly browning the food on both its top and bottom. The operation of the both the top heating element and the gas bake burner can be varied to provide proper cooking and browning based upon e.g., the type of food being cooked, the amount of food being cooked, and the level of browning desired.

A cooking appliance has a cabinet including a front portion, opposing side panels, a base portion, a back panel and a top surface. First and second oven cavities are disposed within the cabinet. Each of the first and second oven cavities include respective sidewall portions maintained in a spaced apart relationship from the opposing side panels. A first airflow passageway provides combustion air to the first oven cavity and cooling air within the cabinet and a second airflow passageway provides combustion air to the lower cavity. The second airflow passageway is separated from the first airflow passageway.

An appliance includes a housing having an airflow channel communicating with outside of the appliance; a first chamber in the housing and having a first opening; a first door for selectively closing the first opening, the first door having a first airway communicating with the outside of the appliance; a second chamber in the housing and having a second opening; a second door for selectively closing the second opening, the second door having a second airway communicating with the outside of the appliance; and a fan in the airflow channel. The airflow channel includes a central segment disposed between the first and second chambers and communicating with the first and second airways. When activated, the fan causes ambient air to pass through the first and second airways before entering the central segment so that the first and second doors are cooled off by the ambient air.

An appliance is disclosed. The appliance includes a main body defining a cavity and an air channel which is in flow communication with an outside of the appliance; an access door supported by the main body for selectively closing the cavity, the access door having an airway in flow communication with the outside of the appliance and the air channel; a fan disposed in the air channel; and an Human Machine Interface disposed on or in the access door. When activated, the fan causes ambient air from the outside of the appliance to pass through the airway before entering the air channel so that the access door is cooled off by the ambient air.

A method of opening an appliance door includes translating the door up and away from a unit so as to clear a lower edge of a physical constraint, thus allowing for gaps to be minimized, further translating the appliance door out so that its handle would not make contact with an adjacent door should the adjacent door be closed or opened while the appliance door is opened, thus allowing the appliance door to be lowered when the same is fully opened in order to increase the usable height and to reduce the gaps below and above the appliance door.

A control system for an oven includes a first and a second temperature sensor, and a controller. The oven has a first cavity and a second cavity and includes, a first electrical heating element positioned within the first oven cavity, and a second electrical heating element positioned within the second oven cavity. The first temperature sensor is configured to detect a temperature within the first oven cavity, and the second temperature sensor is configured to detect a temperature within the second oven cavity. The controller is operatively coupled to the temperature sensors and the heating elements. The controller is configured to receive signals from the sensors and energize both the first and second heating elements by allowing energy to be supplied to only one of the first and second heating elements at a given time.

Method and apparatus for controlling the energization of a cooking appliance

An electric cooking appliance is provided. The electric cooking appliance includes a plurality of surface heating elements and a plurality of sensors configured to monitor an operational status of a corresponding surface heating element. The electric cooking appliance also includes a first cooking unit, a second cooking unit and an electronic control to facilitate sharing power between the first cooking unit and the second cooking unit based on the operational status of the plurality of surface heating elements.

A storage drawer assembly for a freestanding range includes a base module, a storage drawer slidably connected to the base module, and a drawer insert attached to the storage drawer. The drawer insert includes a stop portion and a wedge portion. The wedge portion includes a first surface to prevent excessive deflection of the base module, and a second surface to center the drawer inside the base module.
