A computer implemented method for replacing components of a data processing system, comprising in response to a detection of a newly added component at a specific location; reading its customization data from a data storage and querying a persistent database to determine if functional capabilities according to customization data are specified for this specific location; depending on a result of determining the functional capabilities and of querying the database if it contains customization data either: disabling the component; or enabling the component and storing in the database the customization data; or enabling the component and replacing the customization data in the database; or storing the customization data in the data storage of the component and enabling the component.

A method of using an adjustable attenuation fiber optic wrap plug ('AAFOWP') includes receiving initial data into a wireless module of the AAFOWP, wherein the initial data corresponds to an initial desired attenuation level that the first AAFOWP is to achieve. The method also includes moving, in response to receiving the initial data, an arm by an actuator to change a bend radius of an optical fiber wrap in the AAFOWP, thus adjusting an attenuation through the AAFOWP to the initial desired attenuation level.

The techniques also include determining a trend of the measured or collected parametric data of the device, and filtering noise from the trend based at least in part on at least one of other devices exhibiting a deviation exhibited by the device or system state changes associated with system log files. The techniques include identifying a failure stage of the device based on at least one of the trend or the received operating limits, and transmitting a notification of a predicted failure based at least in part on the identification.

Facilitating processing in a communications environment using stop signaling

Fast error reporting is provided in networks that have an architected delayed error reporting capability. Errors are detected and reported without having to wait for a timeout period to expire. Further, failures of other components caused by the delay are avoided, since the delay is bypassed.
