Accordingly, the system for extracting power from tidal or other water action in a water region having a bottom surface, comprises: a base assembly positionable on the bottom surface of the water region; a buoyant blade assembly mounted on the base assembly, the blade assembly including at least one buoyant blade member, wherein the blade assembly or the blade member is capable of oscillating through an angle, wherein the buoyant blade member is mounted such that when the base assembly is positioned properly in the water region relative to the direction of the tide or other water action, torque is generated by the oscillating movement of the buoyant blade assembly or the buoyant blade member, and wherein the base assembly includes a power-extracting mechanism responsive to the torque generated by the tide or other action of water or the buoyant blade assembly; and a system for coupling the torque to the power-extracting mechanism.

An underwater video camera housing body includes a hollow interior for positioning a camera therein. The front end of the body is configured to receive a transparent member in a watertight relationship thereto. A weight is positioned in the interior of the housing body which is sufficient to overcome the buoyancy of the water, so that the housing can readily sink in water. An opening in the body communicates with the interior of the body. A plug member is inserted into the opening, the plug member containing therein strain-relieving means for the video cable. The plug is filled with a potting material to waterproof the entry of the cable into the housing.

A component pocket tape which resists inadvertent unsealing includes a tape cover having discrete edge portions with gaps therebetween such that when one edge portion is unsealed or bent, subsequent edge portions will not unseal or bend unless such unsealing or bending is desired. An apparatus for unsealing and sealing pocket component tape includes a component tape deforming portion and a plow portion which urges the tape and the component tape cover together whereupon the tape deforming portion releases the tape so as to allow the tape to expand into the tape engaging portion of the cover. For unsealing, the apparatus may be run in reverse such that the tape is deformed and then the plow portion drives the tape and cover apart such that when the deforming portion releases the tape, the tape returns to its original configuration but is separated from the tape cover.

The assembly includes a molded body portion and a metal liner and has an interior portion which is adapted to receive a video camera. A transparent plate is positioned in front of the video camera, with the edges thereof received in an interior surface groove in the molded body. A clamp around the exterior portion of the body outboard of the interior surface groove provides sufficient pressure to maintain a watertight seal for the assembly. A video/power cable extends from the submerged assembly to a monitor which is located at the surface of the water, such as on a boat or raft.

A rivet feed system which includes a base feeder assembly (28), having a rivet passageway (30) extending lengthwise therethrough. The base feeder assembly (28) includes cutout regions to receive rivet injectors (24) which are moved in operation between a first position and a second position. In the first position, an opening (80) in the injectors (24) forms a part of the passageway (30) through the base feeder assembly (28), while in the second position, the opening (80) is positioned directly beneath a vertically oriented rivet cartridge (22) to receive a rivet therefrom. The passageway (30) is connected to a source of pressurized air (32) which moves rivets therealong to a rivet machine or the like. The plurality of cartridges (22) positioned along the base feeder assembly contain rivets of various selected sizes. The rivet cartridges (22) are filled off line by means of a vibrating bowl feeder (117) and a rivet insertion assembly which includes a rivet pump (120) which automatically and repetitively moves rivets which have been inserted thereinto from the bowl feeder (117) into the rivet cartridge (22).

Fastener feed system

An apparatus for holding a workpiece to a known position without regard to the angularity of the surface of the workpiece at the point of contact with the apparatus includes a disk shaped, substantially flat contact pad for engaging the workpiece. The surface of the contact pad opposite the workpiece is substantially spherical and fits in a conical seat so that the center point of the upper surface of the contact pad is always at an known position when the contact pad is seated, without regard to the angularity of the contact pad. A proximity detector determines when the contact pad is seated providing an indication to an operator that the workpiece is properly engaged by the apparatus. The contact pad is contained within the interior of a suction cup that engages the workpiece whereupon externally supplied vacuum pulls the suction cup and the workpiece together. A second embodiment employs the contact pad with an aperture therethrough so as to provide fluid communication to an air supply passing through the contact seat. The air supply provides an air bearing to enable a workpiece to be slid on a cushion of air.

The electrolytic cell of the invention contains a cathode and an anode which produce oxidants to effect sterilization of contaminated water. The anode is made of a Group VIII metal or compound thereof which acts as a catalyst to produce oxidants. In the method of the invention, a salt solution is introduced into the electrolytic cell, oxidants are produced in solution, and the anode effluent stream is introduced directly into the water to be treated.
