A compound change gear transmission (11) of the type including a multiple speed ratio main transmission section (15) and an auxiliary transmission section (17), and a shift rod (83) to engage selected main section gear ratios, and a shift rod (85) to engage selected auxiliary gear ratios. An interlock assembly (91) is included of the type having an interlock pin member (103), which normally prevents axial movement of either shift rod when the other is displaced. The shift rod (83) for the main transmission section has an interlock deactivation position corresponding to a non-neutral, predetermined gear ratio of the main section. The shift rod (83) defines an interlock recess (105) which receives the interlock pin (103) when the shift rod is in the interlock deactivation position, thus permitting simultaneous axial movement of the shift rod (85) for the auxiliary section.

Change gear transmission and shift rod interlock therefor

A bearing retention arrangement is disclosed for rotatably supporting a shaft (27) within a bearing opening (75) defined by a wall portion (35). The bearing retainer (83) is cylindrical and includes a pair of bayonets (89,91), and the bearing opening (75) defines recesses (77,79) Which conform generally to the bayonets. After the shaft (27) is in place, along with the bearing inner race (63) and bearing members (65), the outer race (67) is pressed into the retainer (83). The retainer is then passed through the bearing opening, with the bayonets passing through the recesses, until the bayonets (89,91) are disposed adjacent a forward surface (71) of the wall portion (35). The bearing retainer is then rotated until the bayonets are no longer rotationally aligned with the recesses, and finally, some form of antirotation device (95,99) is installed to prevent rotation of the bearing retainer from its assembled position (FIG. 3).

A three-position actuator assembly for selectively shifting a three-speed splitter type auxiliary transmission section (14) is provided. The actuator assembly includes a piston portion (160) for axially moving a selected one of two shift forks (142/148) and a pneumatic control circuit (162) comprising three three-way, two-position solenoid controlled valves (202/204/206) and two three-way shuttle valves (214/216). Only one solenoid is energized for each selectable actuator position and a failure of the pneumatic (200) or electrical power sources to the control circuit will not cause the actuator to shift out of an engaged ratio.

A probe transducer subassembly for a rotational speed sensor assembly is provided. A probe body (1) has a transducer portion (14) extending through an opening (19) into the interior of housing for electromagnetic cooperation with an exciter rotor, a distal portion (15) carrying connection devices extending therefrom and an enlarged diameter intermediate portion defining inwardly and outwardly facing shoulders. The shoulders cooperate with the exterior surface of the housing surrounding the opening and a shoulder in a shroud member (2) to axially position the probe in the housing and allow the probe to be clamped between the housing and the shroud.
