A fibrin sealant product having a plurality of layers that each includes a dextran support and at least one fibrin sealant agent. The at least one fibrin sealant agent is placed on the dextran support to form each of the layers. The plurality of layers is placed in a stacked configuration to form the fibrin sealant product. A plurality of crimps is dispersed over a surface of the fibrin sealant product to retain the plurality of layers in a position with respect to each other.

A method of sealing a durotomy from which cerebrospinal fluid is leaking. A durotomy sealant dressing is prepared by applying an active agent to a dextran base. The durotomy sealant dressing is applied to a durotomy. At least a portion of the durotomy sealant dressing dissolves. The durotomy is sealed with the dissolved durotomy sealant dressing to substantially prevent cerebrospinal fluid from flowing through the durotomy.

Method of sealing a durotomy

A method of forming hemostatic sheets. Dextran and water are mixed to form a dextran-water mixture. The dextran-water mixture is formed into a first support layer. Fibrinogen and thrombin are mixed to form a fibrinogen and thrombin mixture. The fibrinogen and thrombin mixture is dispersed on the first support layer to form a hemostatic sheet.

Method of forming a hemostatic product

A method of inducing hemostasis in a wound using a hemostatic product. A dextran support is provided. At least one hemostatic agent stabilizer is mixed with at least one hemostatic agent to form a hemostatic agent and stabilizer mixture. The at least one hemostatic agent includes at least one of thrombin and fibrinogen. The hemostatic agent and stabilizer mixture is associated with the dextran support. The hemostatic product is applied to the wound in which a bodily fluid is present. The at least one hemostatic agent is released from the hemostatic product to induce hemostasis in the wound.

Method of inducing hemostasis in a wound

A hemostatic product that includes a dextran support, at least one hemostatic agent and at least one hemostatic agent stabilizer. The at least one hemostatic agent is selected from the group consisting of thrombin and fibrinogen. The at least one hemostatic agent is associated with the dextran support. The at least one hemostatic agent stabilizer is associated with the at least one hemostatic agent.

A safety device includes an elongate tubular member formed of a buoyant material having gripping surfaces disposed on distal and proximal ends thereof. The elongate tubular member is positionable between initial and second positions. First and second appendages are disposed in mechanical cooperation with the proximal and distal ends of the elongate tubular member. Therapeutic devices and methods according to embodiments of the invention alleviate e.g. urinary incontinence in female and male patients. Suction or vacuum, for example, is applied to the genital region, clitoris or clitoral region, the external urethral orifice, and/or other designated areas, e.g. physically stimulating the sacral/pudendal nerves and/or nerve roots and alleviating incontinence. Such embodiments also can encourage or cause clitoral engorgement, or otherwise promote blood flow in the genital region. Vacuum or suction applied to e.g. the clitoris creates a negative pressure in the clitoris that is lower than the systolic blood pressure, tending to promote engorgement of the clitoris with blood. Aspects of the invention are applicable not only to treatment of urinary and fecal incontinence, but also to the treatment of female sexual dysfunction. Aspects of the invention are also applicable to treatment of male incontinence and male erectile dysfunction.
