Baby stroller

A foldable baby stroller having left and right side front wheel supports with a front wheel mounted to a forward end, and a laterally extending rear axle with a rear wheel mounted to each end. The stroller has left and right side rear wheel supports, each with a lower end attached to the rear axle; and left and right side handle supports with a handle spanning between them. The stroller has left and right side folding assemblies, each having a pair of mounting plates and a guide pivotally attached therebetween. Each folding assembly has a rearward end of one of the front wheel supports fixedly attached between the plates. A forward end of one of the handle supports is pivotally attached between the plates and rotatable relative to the front wheel support. An upper end portion of one of the rear wheel supports is positioned between the plates with an upper end being pivotally attached to the forward end of the corresponding handle support for application of a drive force thereto by the handle support. The guide has an aperture with one of the rear wheel supports slidably disposed therein. The guide and guide aperture are configured to rotate the rear wheel support and to also slide the rear wheel support in the guide aperture in response to rotation of the corresponding handle support. Alternative style guides can also be used.

A foldable baby stroller having left and right side front wheel supports with a front wheel mounted to a forward end, and a laterally extending rear axle with a rear wheel mounted at each end. Further included are left and right side rear wheel supports, each with a lower end attached to the axle; and left and right side handle supports with a handle spanning between them. Also included are left and right side folding assemblies, each having a pair of mounting plates and a guide pivotally attached therebetween. A rearward end of one of the front wheel supports is fixedly attached between each plate pair. A forward end of one of the handle supports is pivotally attached between the plates and rotatable relative to the front wheel support. An upper end portion of one of the rear wheel supports is positioned between the plates and pivotally attached to the forward end of the handle support for application of a drive force thereto. The guide has an aperture with one of the rear wheel supports slidably disposed therein. The guide and guide aperture are configured to rotate the rear wheel support and to slide the rear wheel support in the guide aperture in response to rotation of the handle support. In several embodiments, each of the left and right side folding assemblies uses a pair of meshing gear segments, one being attached to the handle support and one being attached to the rear wheel support.

Baby stroller conversion unit

A foldable all-terrain baby stroller with an economical construction. The stroller has a tubular rear axle having left and right wheels mounted thereto and left and right laterally spaced-apart base frame members. The base frame members have flat forward end portions with a notch therein to receive the axle of a front wheel and flat rearward end portions with a hole therein sized to rotatably receive the rear axle. A spacer tube is coaxially mounted on the rear axle between the rearward portions of the base frame members to prevent inward movement thereof. Left and right upright frame members each have a lower end welded directly to the rear axle laterally outward of the rearward end portions of the corresponding left and right base frame members to prevent laterally outward movement thereof on the rear axle. Left and right inclined upper frame members are pivotally attached to the upper end portions of the corresponding upright frame members and have forward end portions which are rigidly connected together to move as a unit by an attachment member extending therebetween. A coupler is attached to the base frame members and has an upper plate and a lower plate spaced apart to define a substantially unobstructed receiver opening therebetween sized to releasably receive therein the forward end portions of the upper frame members and the attachment member. A lock pin is received within holes in the upper and lower coupler plates and the attachment member to releasably secure the forward end portions of the upper frame members in the receiver opening.

An assembly for converting a three-wheeled baby stroller to a two-wheeled bicycle trailer configuration. The conversion assembly includes an upper frame attachment attached to the upper stroller frame. Left and right support members are connected to a forward portion of the upper frame attachment and extend downward and each have at a lower end thereof an axle extension assembly. This assembly is positioned between the end of the stroller rear axle and the stroller rear wheel to extend the rear wheel base of the stroller to provide increased stability. A tow arm assembly extends from a forward end of the upper frame attachment and at a forward end thereof carries a hitch which clamps to the seatpost of a bicycle. An elongated baseplate is positioned at the forward end of the stroller lower frame and securely clamped thereto. Left and right side suspension members are attached at an upper end to the tow-arm assembly and at a lower end to the baseplate and support the front end of the stroller frame when the front wheel thereof is removed. The baseplate further serves as a carrier for the removed front wheel. The base plate has a connector positioned forward of the stroller connectors which receive the lower ends of the stroller upper frame tubes. With the lower ends of the stroller upper frame tubes moved forward into the baseplate connector, the center of gravity of the stroller seat is moved forward and is lowered to provide increased stability. The left and right side suspension members also serve to transmit lifting forces produced on the rear wheels of the stroller to the seatpost of the bicycle so that the weight of the rider on the bicycle counters the lifting force to inhibit tipping and rolling.

An all terrain baby stroller using an axle assembly that allows the rear wheels to be easily and quickly mounted and removed from the stroller frame without tools. The axle assembly has each rear wheel rotatably mounted on an outward end portion of a stub axle. A tubular rear axle defines a cylindrical interior chamber with an outward end opening sized to slidably receive the stub axle inward end portion therethrough for positioning of the stub axle inward portion coaxially within the interior chamber. When so positioned, a circumferential groove of the stub axle inward end portion is positioned within the interior chamber. The tubular sidewall of the rear axle has an aperture positioned axially inward from the interior chamber outward opening and at a location to coincide with the circumferential groove. A lock pin is carried by a strip spring and is movably disposed in the sidewall aperture for selective movement between an engagement position and a disengagement position. In the engagement position the pin extends into the interior chamber and into the circumferential groove of the stub axle inward end portion to prevent axial withdrawal of the stub axle from the interior chamber. When in the disengagement position, the pin is sufficiently clear of the circumferential groove to permit the stub axle inward end portion to be axially inserted into and removed from the interior chamber.

An all-terrain stroller having a pair of rear wheels, each having a receiver fixedly attached thereto for rotation therewith. The receiver has a plurality of circumferentially distributed receiver openings which open inward toward the opposite rear wheel. A pair of brake rods is movably supported by the rear axle of the stroller for lateral movement of each toward and away from one of the receivers under the urging of a coil spring. A foot pedal actuator is rotatable between brake engaged and disengaged positions. The foot pedal carries a cam which moves the brake rods toward and into one of the receiver openings of the corresponding receiver when the brake pedal is rotated to engaged position to lock the rear wheels against rotational movement. The cam permits withdrawal of the brake rods from the receiver openings when the foot pedal is rotated to the disengaged position. The foot pedal is provided with stops to limit rotation of the foot pedal beyond the engaged and disengaged positions. The strollers uses a frame with a pair of substantially straight horizontal base frame tubes which are each rotatably connected to the rear axle by a connector having a transverse tubular portion which rotatably receives the rear axle.
