Systems and methods for monitoring passive components of a passive public safety distributed antenna system are provided, including a bi-directional amplifier, a public safety monitor coupled to and in communication with the bi-directional amplifier, and at least one smart node coupled to and in communication with the public safety monitor. The at least one smart node includes a processor configured to monitor signal characteristic information of at least one passive component of the system and transmit the signal characteristic information of the at least one passive component to the public safety monitor. The public safety monitor generates system performance information based on a signal at the bi-directional amplifier and the transmitted signal characteristic information of the at least one passive component from the at least one smart node.

Disclosed are devices, systems, apparatuses, methods, products, and other implementations of GNSS repeater systems and methods for improving phase and frequency alignment of RF signals transported through fiber optic communication channels. Acquired RF signals are processed at a remote outdoor unit, where they are digitized, formatted into a CPRI frame, and timestamped. The timestamped CPRI frame is then transported over a fiber optic communication channel to an indoor head end unit. The indoor head end unit extracts timestamp and digitized RF signal from the CPRI frame. The timestamp is then used to synchronize a base transceiver station (BTS) and a precision time protocol (PTP) grand master with the remote outdoor unit.

In a cell phone telecommunication system having a macrocell and a small cell coextensive with or adjacent to the macrocell and sharing a common frequency band, interference can occur between a user device operating in the small cell, the local base station operating the user devices in the small cell on one hand and another user device serviced by a main base station for the macrocell. In order to reduce this interference, the shape of the transmission beam from at least one of the user devices or base stations is shaped into a narrow beam steered to be directed at the respective receiving unit. Alternatively, the shape of the transmission beam has a null point and the beam is steered so that its null point is directed toward the affected unit.

A station in a communications network comprises at least two antennas configured to operate together for both transmitting and receiving modes. A phase setting difference between the transmit and receive antenna patterns may be determined and used to determine a relative amplitude setting for the transmit antenna pattern and/or a relative amplitude setting for the receive antenna pattern.

System and method for transmit and receive antenna patterns calibration for time division duplex (TDD) systems

A system and method for backhaul based explicit sounding feedback of 802.11 AP to AP channel state information (CSI) so that inter AP interference can be reduced and multiple APs transmissions that can occur simultaneously on the same radio channel. A modification may be made to APs such that they can accurately measure the CSI between them that in turn enables their respective beamformer to create pattern nulls toward each other while simultaneously developing pattern enhancements toward their intended station. An AP may send a sounding packet to its associated STAs, poll explicit feedbacks from STAs and receive backhaul CSI feedbacks from neighboring APs. There is no additional Wi-Fi overhead in physical layer. Backhaul feedback link is established through direct peer-to-peer (P2P) link which bypassed the sounding controller to reduce CSI feedback delay.

A system may include a modifiable mobile device having at least two antennas coupled to fractional amplifiers, with returned power detectors. A beamformer unit provides adaptive beam shaping pattern, and a baseband processor provides beam pattern requirements, wherein the beamformer unit modifies the beam pattern requirements with return loss sampling information to shape the adaptive beam pattern so that a transmitted beam pattern minimizes transmitted power reflected back to the mobile device. A method may include regularly measuring a return power level, if output power is greater than a specific absorption rate level, comparing the return power level to a first threshold, else implementing mobile transmit diversity (MTD), and repeating. If the return power level is greater than the first threshold, implementing a MTD combined with reflection-based beamforming that modifies beam pattern requirements of the mobile device with return loss sampling information to create an adaptive beam pattern.

System and method for adaptive beam forming for specific absorption rate control

A communication device operating in time division duplex (TDD) mode using multiple antennas is provided herein. The communication device uses receive channel estimation measurements to perform transmit beamforming and multiple input multiple output (MIMO) transmission, based on self-calibration of the various up/down paths via a method of transmission and reception between its own antennas, thus achieving reciprocity mapping between up and down links. Either user equipment (UE) or a base station may routinely perform this self-calibration to obtain the most current correction factor for the channel reciprocity to reflect the most current operating conditions present during TDD MIMO operation.
