Impeller blades and a method for designing impeller blades wherein the blades comprise a plurality of specially designed airfoil sections, each section having along substantially the entire length thereof, a cross-sectional shape characterized by a maximum thickness located substantially constantly between about 16% chord to about 23% chord and a maximum camber located substantially constantly between about 40% chord to about 51% chord. The blades are designed so that the axial width of the blades is decreased while maintaining performance parameters and design constraints.

Impeller blade

Method for determining the camber line and thickness distribution for blades used in a cooling fan with counter-rotating impellers. The camber lines and thickness distributions for the blades of each of the impellers are determined through use of Bezier curves and chosen to reduce boundary layer separation of airflow across the blades. The Bezier control points are altered to produce a set of distributions of the camber lines and thickness distributions, and the most favorable set is found with increased cooling efficiency.

Method of designing an Impeller blade

A counter-rotating axial flow fan for cooling electronic components comprising two or more impellers with narrow chord blades. At least one impeller rotates in a first direction and at least one impeller rotates in a second direction opposite to the first direction. The blades of the impellers are configured so as to cause air to flow in the same axial direction. The air flow generated by this counter-rotating fan is substantially greater than the air flow of an otherwise identical co-rotating fan.

Axial flow fan

An axial flow fan comprising a printed circuit board which mounts the circuitry for operating the motor which is a bipolar winding motor. A voltage regulator IC and a driving IC for a bipolar winding motor are mounted on the printed circuit board. The fan housing is employed as a heat sink for the voltage regulator. Large circuit elements are eliminated. The axial flow fan further comprises a plurality of blades for cooling electronic components wherein the blades comprise of a plurality of specially designed airfoil sections, each section having along substantially the entire length thereof, a cross-sectional shape characterized by a maximum thickness located substantially constantly between about 19% chord to about 20% chord and a maximum camber located substantially constantly between about 45% chord to about 46% chord. The circuitry, housing, and blades are designed so that the axial width of the axial fan is decreased while maintaining performance parameters and design constraints.

Axial flow fan having a compact circuit board and impeller blade

The present invention provides a drive and control circuit for a single phase, brushless DC motor. The drive and control circuit includes an integrated circuit having a maximum rated voltage lower than the maximum net voltage of the overall circuit. Internal transistors in the integrated circuit are used to drive the emitters of two external power transistors which are connected to the windings of the DC motor. In this manner, a relatively inexpensive integrated circuit can be used to drive and control a DC motor having a much higher operating voltage.
