A backing lath ( ) used for coating a web of paper or paperboard in doctor blade and rod coaters and film-transfer coaters, the backing lath featuring a fiber-reinforced composite material body. When necessary, the backing lath can be surfaced with a wear-resistant coating. The invention also concerns a doctor element assembly, wherein the backing lath has a fiber-reinforced composite material body.

Backing lath for a doctor device

An apparatus for applying a treating mix onto the surface of a moving device in the coating of paper or board. The apparatus comprises a blade carrier ( ), doctor means ( ) attached to the blade carrier ( ), a front wall ( ) positioned a distance from the doctor means ( ), a device ( ) constituting the moving device, said device being arranged in conjunction with the front wall ( ) and the doctor means such that it forms a chamber ( ) with the front wall ( ) and the doctor means, and means ( ) for supplying treating agent into an area of the application chamber ( ) which is at least essentially opposite to the moving surface. To prevent streaks, a screen plate ( ) is fitted in the application chamber, at least partly dividing the application chamber ( ) such that with regard to the screen plate ( ), the doctor means ( ) is arranged on the opposite side thereof to the feed means for the treating agent.
