An approach is provided for managing subscriber identity and location information within a mobile telecommunication network. Transmission of location data to a third party over a communication network is initiated, the location data being indicative of a geographical location of an apparatus. Transmission of an access request to a networking node including a destination application is initiated, the access request including a unique identifier of the apparatus.

Provision of location information

The invention relates to a method for controlling information provided to a user in a telecommunications network from at least one information provider. The network has identifying information defining the at least one type of information which can be provided to the user. The method comprises the steps of determining the type of information which an information provider proposed to provide to the user; and uses the identifying information and the determined type of information to control if the proposed information can be provided to the user.

Method and equipment for controlling information provided to a user in a network

In a telecommunication system communication to and/or from a user equipment is carried on a user plane and messages supporting the communication are carried on a control plane. Information supporting provision of information about the location of the user equipment is also arranged to be carried on the user plane to and/or from the user equipment.

A method is presented for initiating communication in a mobile terminal capable of providing at least a first mode of communication and a second mode of communication, the mobile terminal comprising a communication initiation element. The method involves the steps of detecting a user actuation of the communication initiation element, discriminating between at least a first and a second type of the user actuation, and generating a control signal for initiating communication using the first mode of communication or the second mode of communication, depending on whether the user actuation is of the first type or the second type. A corresponding mobile terminal and a computer program are also presented.

Mobile communication terminal and method

A method of passing location data within a communication network to a third party is provided. The location data is indicative of a geographical position of a mobile telecommunications device. The method includes the steps of determining the location data associated with the telecommunications device, receiving from the mobile telecommunications device an access request including a destination application and a unique identifier of the mobile telecommunications device, determining an alias identifier for the mobile telecommunications device, replacing the unique identifier in the access request with an alias identifier for the telecommunications device, forwarding the access request to the destination application, and forwarding the location data with the alias to the destination application. The destination application is then able to associate the access request with the location data.

A method of communicating information associated with provisioning of a service in a communication system and arrangement for the same is disclosed. In the method information about possible associations between an identifier of a mobile user equipment () and user plane addresses is stored in storage means (). A service provisioning entity may receive a request for the service from a client () connected to the communication system. Said request includes an identifier of the mobile user equipment. It is verified if a user plane address can be found from the storage means based on the identifier. If such a user plane address is found from the storage means, data associated with provisioning of the requested service is communicated to the mobile user equipment over a user plane connection associated with said address found from the storage means. If no user plane address can be found from the storage means based on the identifier, a new user plane connection is established, and data associated with provisioning of the requested service is communicated to the mobile user equipment over said established user plane connection.

Communicating information associated with provisioning of a service, over a user plane connection

In a communication system a request for location information associated with a target user is signalled from an entity. Said request contains information identifying the requestor of said location information. A verification is performed based on said identifying information if the target user has authorized the requester to initiate provision of location information that associates with the target user. The location information provision is initiated if it is determined that the requester is authorised by the target user to initiate provision of location information that associates with the target user.

Method for the provision of location information

A telecommunications system comprises at least one user and provides a first entity for storing information defining a privacy profile for at least one user. A second entity is arranged to store an association between at least one user and the first entity and the system is such that in response to a request for information relating to the user, the association stored in the second entity is used to identify the first entity so that a check can be made with respect to the privacy profile as to whether or not the requested information, can be provided.
