The present disclosure relates to various aspects of a procedure for reducing the carbon dioxide content in blood during the treatment of patients. A first aspect of the present disclosure relates to a buffer solution for use in reducing the carbon dioxide content in the blood when treating a patient suffering from pulmonary insufficiency or the complete failure of lung function, wherein the fluid is in gas exchange with a portion of the patient's blood conducted through an extracorporeal circuit. The first aspect of the present disclosure further relates to an apparatus for the extracorporeal reduction of the carbon dioxide content in the blood using said buffer solution. A second aspect of the present disclosure relates to a system for extracorporeal blood treatment, likewise using said buffer solution and the apparatus, and furthermore to a treatment apparatus for extracorporeal blood treatment comprising the aforementioned system. A third aspect of the present disclosure relates to a functional unit for performing extracorporeal blood treatment, a blood-guiding apparatus for interacting with the functional unit for performing an extracorporeal blood treatment using the aforementioned buffer solution, which comprises a blood treatment element, wherein the blood treatment element is the aforementioned apparatus for the extracorporeal reduction of the carbon dioxide content in the blood. In a fourth aspect, the present disclosure relates to a treatment system comprising the aforementioned apparatus for the extracorporeal reduction of the carbon dioxide content in blood as well as a balancing device. In a fifth aspect, the present disclosure relates to a treatment system comprising the aforementioned apparatus for the extracorporeal reduction of the carbon dioxide content in blood as well as a means for reducing the pressure of the aforementioned buffer solution used in said treatment system.

Treatment aspects for reducing the carbon dioxide content in the blood

This disclosure relates to a method for determining a fluid balance between a first volume flow in a first section of a fluid circuit and a second volume flow of a second section of the fluid circuit. The method may also include adjusting, assuming or detecting a first temperature in the first section of the fluid circuit and a second temperature in the second section of the fluid circuit, or detecting a temperature difference between the first and the second sections. The method may also include detecting a second volume flow in a second section of the fluid circuit and forming a balance from at least the first volume flow and a corrected value of the second volume flow. The corrected value is determined from the detected second volume flow and the second temperature and/or the temperature difference.

A sensor card for determining analytes in liquid and gas samples with films connected to one another in sheetlike fashion, namely a sensor film facing the sample with openings and a covering film remote from the sample with openings for electrical tapping, at least one sensor being provided and arranged between the sensor film and the covering film. There is provided between the sensor film and the covering film at least one intermediate film, in which cutouts are provided, the sensor being arranged in one of the cutouts. The sensor card provides a homogeneous thickness, which brings about a reliable sealing of the flow channels for the liquid sample if the sensor card is connected to a plate that partially forms the flow channels within the analysis system. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for producing such a sensor card.

A disposable receptacle unit for solutions is described, in particular for solutions used in calibrating sensors for measurement of physiologically relevant parameters. The receptacle is a disposable blister pack for a single use that includes several chambers to hold solutions. Each chamber is connected to a sample channel by an outlet channel sealed by a sealing element. The sensors for measurement of physiological parameters are preferably part of the receptacle unit. To calibrate the sensors, the calibration solutions in the chambers are metered into the sample channel after opening the corresponding sealing elements. After the treatment, the receptacle unit is discarded together with the sensors.

The porous carrier (6) is saturated with an enzyme suitably glucose oxidase for the determination of glucose wherein the surface of the carrier (68) is protected against the environment by a membrane (70).
