For testing the functional capability of a hydraulic power vehicle braking system, a power brake pressure generator is switched on. The power brake pressure generator displaces brake fluid through the non-actuated master brake cylinder into a brake fluid reservoir, which is why no brake pressure is built up. A brake pressure build-up allows a 'hidden defect' to be inferred, which has no impact during normal operation and is therefore not noticed.

A method for functional testing of an electromechanical fill level monitoring device. In order to test the plausibility of a signal emitted by a fill level monitoring device of a first pressure medium chamber, a forced actuation of this fill level monitoring device is carried from time to time. This forced actuation is carried out in that a pressure medium delivery unit in a pressure medium circuit having the first pressure medium chamber is activated for a predefined period. This delivers the pressure medium fill level monitoring device into a second pressure medium chamber via a pressure medium connection. On the basis of the signal profile output by the fill level monitoring device, the proper operation of the fill level monitoring device is inferred in the electronic control unit.

To test a vehicle power braking system, a piston of a power brake pressure generator is displaced twice for a pressure build-up and in between back preferably by a longer distance. Extension of the piston travel during the second displacement is an indication of air in a cylinder of the power brake pressure generator due to an excessively low brake fluid level in a brake fluid reservoir.

In a method for reducing the rollover risk in vehicles, at least one state variable which characterizes the transverse dynamics of the vehicle is ascertained and is used as the basis for an intervention into the steering system and the braking system which stabilizes the vehicle. A multivariable control is carried out in which two control loops are superimposed, the first control loop being based on control of the yaw rate and the second control loop being based on control of the transverse acceleration. The steering system as well as the braking system may be adjusted via the first and second control loops.
