An image producing apparatus having a function to display information concerning documentation control, comprises display units in paper stack along with display units in a main body of the apparatus. The display unit placed nearby the paper stack displays information concerning documentation control of the paper discharged into the paper stack, and display unit in the main body displays information concerning documentation control of the image data stored in a memory. The apparatus has the capabilities of changing the displayed contents easily without replacing the labels and of confirming the situation of outputted images. Furthermore, the document data can be controlled based on operations in an operation unit of the main body of the apparatus.

An image reading apparatus comprises a vertical type paper feed unit which feed paper into a printing unit, and a discharge unit which contains the paper discharged from the printing unit. The paper feed unit and the discharged unit are arranged in a vertical direction to the printing unit, which will allow the floor surface projection area to be reduced. Further, the paper is conveyed into one of discharge trays in accordance with its paper size. Thereby, the larger size paper is discharged underside the smaller size paper, accordingly, it does not occur for the paper discharged to the upper discharge tray to shield the paper on the lower stage discharge tray from the visual angle. Also, the confirmation of paper discharge and taking out can be easily carried out irrespective of the paper size.

An image producing apparatus comprises a paper passage route which conveys paper selectively from a manual paper-feed unit and a paper feed unit, and conveys paper discharged from a print unit, and an image reading unit which reads out images of a document conveyed in the paper passage route. In a usual state, printed output is produced on the paper contained in the paper feed unit of a body, and the manual paper-feed unit is kept vacant, then, there is no need to take out the paper in the case of loading the document to be read out in the manual paper-feed tray. Moreover, the apparatus does not have a paper feed tray, a discharge tray and a paper passage route used only for image reading, which can decrease manufacturing costs, and besides, makes it possible to take up less installation space.

An image producing apparatus comprises a table which is provided over the upper surface of a top plate in a body thereof for placing an external device. Besides, the apparatus also comprises a connector unit which is located adjacent to the table for connection to the external device. Thus, the connection of the external device will be simplified, and besides, the external device can be operated with ease when the external device is connected to the apparatus. Furthermore, the apparatus is provided with a stationary swiveling mechanism, so that a user can easily turn a side of the body, where a sheet of paper is jammed, to the front.

A lightweight, easy to grasp and manipulate hand-held optical scanning device for scanning and digitizing image data from a two-dimensional bar code symbol for subsequent decoding in a personal computer platform. The scanning device achieves a small footprint in the user's workspace by utilizing a non-folded, substantially vertical optical path extending from an image viewing area upwardly to a linear charge-coupled device (CCD) array upon which the successive rows of the target two-dimensional bar code symbol are imaged. The scanning device is easily aligned with the symbol by placing it behind the symbol, and scanning of the successive rows of the symbol is accomplished by swiping or rolling the scanning device towards the user. Mechanical rollers on the underside of the scanning device provide translation information for use in clocking data out of the linear CCD array in order to scan the successive rows of the two-dimensional bar code symbol. The operating environment of the computer allows scanning to be initiated by the user without having to use the keyboard or mouse peripheral. As the two-dimensional bar code symbol is being scanned, digitized image data is automatically and in real time ported to a symbol decoding application running in the background, and decoded data from the decoding application is ported into the application the user is running in the foreground. A trackball and a pair of select buttons are optionally provided on the scanning device for mouse emulation, thereby eliminating the need for a separate mouse peripheral device.

Hand-held optical scanner for reading two-dimensional bar code symbols

A point-of-sale unit for electro-optically reading bar code symbols includes a housing having a handle and a curved head. The head and the handle have support surfaces for engaging a work surface to support the housing in various orientations. The handle may be removably mounted behind the curved head.

Optical scanning of one and two-dimensional barcode symbols is carried out using a variety of ergonomic scanner embodiments which can each be used either in a hand-held mode or in a fixed-mode. In certain embodiments, hand-held scanners are described which can if required be easily positioned in a number of desired orientations on a work surface. Other embodiments disclose point-of-sale arrangements incorporating removable barcode scanners that can, where necessary, be removed from the point-of-sale unit and used by the checkout operator to scan a large or bulky item in a 'point-and-shoot' mode.

Optical scanner

A portable optical scanning system incorporates a ring mounted optical scanner module which is arranged to transmit data either via radio or cable to a wrist mount unit. The wrist mount unit may either receive and store the information, or it may include a radio transmitter for onward transmission of the data. A variety of different rings, ring mounted scanner modules, wrist mounts and wrist mount units may be provided for various applications, the user simply picking those which are required in any individual case. The scanner module is mounted to the ring by a breakaway element allowing the module easily to break off the mounting to prevent damage and/or injury.
