The invention relates to an apparatus and method for tracking energy consumption. An energy tracking system comprises at least one switching element, at least one inductor and a control block to keep the output voltage at a pre-selected level. The switching elements are configured to apply the source of energy to the inductors. The control block compares the output voltage of the energy tracking system to a reference value and controls the switching of the switched elements in order to transfer energy for the primary voltage into a secondary voltage at the output of the energy tracking system. The electronic device further comprises an ON-time and OFF-time generator and an accumulator wherein the control block is coupled to receive a signal from the ON-time and OFF-time generator and generates switching signals for the at least one switching element in the form of ON-time pulses with a constant width ON-time.

Tracking energy consumption using a buck-boosting technique

A transmission system includes a first device and a second device remote from the first device. The first device transmits electrical energy to a transmission line during a power provision phase, generates and transmits data symbols to the transmission line during a downstream transmission phase, and receives data symbols from the transmission line during an upstream transmission phase. The second device receives the energy from the transmission line during the power provision phase, receives the data symbols from the transmission line during the downstream transmission phase, and generates and transmits the data symbols to the transmission line during the upstream transmission phase, and the second device generates and transmits data symbols by shorting or disconnecting the transmission line. A method of transmitting electrical energy from the local device to the remote device, and communicating data symbols between the local and remote devices is also disclosed.

A system and method for monitoring energy use in an electronic device. In one embodiment, an energy monitoring system includes a processor and an energy monitor module. The energy monitor module includes instructions that when executed cause the processor to receive values of measured parameters of a pulse signal that controls the switching of energy to an energy storage device in a switch mode power supply that provides power to an electronic device. The instructions also cause the processor to determine, based on the values of measured parameters, attributes of operation of the electronic device powered by the energy source during an interval corresponding to the measured parameters. The instructions further cause the processor to generate, based on the attributes of operation, a control signal that causes the electronic device to change the loading of the power supply by the electronic device.

Tracking energy consumption using a boost technique

A circuit, system, and method for tracking energy use in a electronic circuit. A circuit includes a DC-DC converter and a comparator. The DC-DC converter is configured to maintain a desired output voltage by switching energy to an energy storage device based on an output voltage of the energy storage device. The DC-DC converter includes an output driver configured to source current to the energy storage device. The comparator is coupled to the DC-DC converter. The comparator is configured to identify a drive state of the output driver, and to generate a signal indicative of amount of energy transferred from the DC-DC converter to a load circuit. The signal corresponds to the identified drive state.

Energy tracking circuit

A program optimizer includes an energy tracking system, an energy monitoring system, and a code generation control system. The energy tracking system measures a pulse signal of a DC-DC converter that provides energy to a processor. The energy monitoring system determines, based on values received from the energy tracking system, attributes of operation of the processor. The code generation control system determines whether the values indicate that the execution of a first version of a program uses an amount of energy that is outside a predefined energy range, and to: 1) identify a parameter of an instruction generator that if changed will cause a second version of the program, when to use an amount of energy that is within the predefined energy range; 2) change a value of the identified first parameter; and 3) produce a second version of the program based on the changed value of the first parameter.
