In an embodiment, the present invention provides a sound-absorbing textile composite, including: a) at least one open-pore support layer comprising coarse staple fibers having a titer of from 3 dtex to 17 dtex and fine staple fibers having a titer of from 0.3 dtex to 2.9 dtex, as scaffold fibers; and b) a microporous flow layer arranged on the support layer and including microfibers having a fiber diameter of less than 10 &#x3bc;m. A flow resistance of the sound-absorbing textile composite is from 250 Ns/mto 5000 Ns/m.

A fiber reinforcement is positioned on the female part of a matched die, and a reactive foaming mixture of polyol and isocyanate is placed on the reinforcement, the male part of the die set being then closed on the female part so as to compress the reinforcement and holding the die parts together while the mixture's foaming reaction occurs. So that the reinforcement can comprise finer than usual individual fiber thicknesses and be compressed more than usual by closing of the die while still filling all the voids between the fibers of the reinforcement with the foam produced by the mixture's reaction, from 5 to 30% by weight of a neutral ester having a boiling temperature higher than the foaming reaction temperature of the mixture, is initially added to the mixture before it is placed on the reinforcement and prior to closing of the die. This results in the foaming penetrating the voids between the fibers throughout the reinforcement between the mold parts more completely than is possible without using the ester.

Across the gas flow path in a duct such as for air conditioning there is placed a composite filter set comprising a plurality of filter elements and means joining said elements, each of said filter elements comprising a plurality of filter pockets and a frame holding said pockets at their open ends, and said joining means connecting the frames of adjacent filter elements in a manner to form a gas-tight seal therebetween so that flowing gas can advance only by passage through one of said filter pockets.

A gas filter element comprising a holding frame and a plurality of self-supporting wedge-shaped filter pockets each having its wide end open and secured to said frame, each element comprising a pair of substantially symmetrical pocket halves secured to one another along the wedge edge and centrally along the opposite wedge end faces, and a plurality of laminar spacing elements with each pocket extending from adjacent the open end toward the wedge edge, each spacing element being secured to the opposite inclined wedge faces, each filter pocket being rendered self-supporting by the securing of the sub-elements to one another and the securing of the spacing elements to the pocket. Advantageously the filter pockets each comprises fusible fibers, the pocket halves being joined to one another by fusion and the spacing elements being secured to the pocket by fusion. The remaining wedge edges also may be stiffened by fusion and additional stiffening lines may be provided in each inclined wedge face extending from adjacent the open end toward the wedge edge.
