A power inverter is provided for converting DC power into AC power. The inverter may be operable to couple to two or more transformer modules each operable to convert at least a portion of the DC power to at least a portion of the AC power. In one embodiment, two or more transformer modules are removably coupled to the inverter. In an alternative embodiment, the inverter is capable of electrically coupling to an externally-housed transformer module. In an alternative embodiment, the inverter may include two or more transformer modules hard-wired into the device. The inverter may include an AC safety plug for releasably connecting to an AC power network and outputting AC power. The inverter may include one or more sensors configured to detect one or more properties of the AC power network for the purposes of determining whether a connection to the power network should be established.

Power inverter

A rack for carrying skis and snowboards on top of a vehicle includes a pair of clamp devices equipped for mounting on a pair of crossbars. Each clamp device has a collapsible position which reduces its forward facing profile when not being used to carry cargo items.

The present invention relates to improved optical devices and reflection control techniques. In one aspect, the invention provides an optical device comprising an array of substantially tubular elements and one or more reflective surfaces, wherein at least one of the reflective surfaces positioned behind the tubular elements is tilted with respect to the optical path of the device. This orientation of the reflective surface results in incident light from a source in the field of view of the device being reflected from the tilted surface and captured by the array of elements, rather than the reflected light being projected outward from the device where it can be perceived by a viewer, particularly a viewer in the field of view.

Optical devices and reflection control techniques

The present invention relates to improved light devices, such as illumination or signal devices used on vehicles for managing the light reflections from reflective surfaces of such devices. In one exemplary embodiment thereof, a light device includes an array of tubular elements partially embedded in a reflective surface, such as a surface of a lens of said device, which lens focuses, directs or disperses light from the device. The use of such an embedded array of tubular elements causes the light source to appear as a substantially opaque surface when the light device is not operative and permits an effective amount of light to be projected from the light device when the device is operative.

Illumination apparatus and reflection control techniques

A structure for use in reducing reflections as from a light reflecting surface of an optical device. The structure utilizes a plurality of substantially tubular elements mounted in front of the reflective surface. In a preferred embodiment, the aspect ratio of the tubular elements being selected to be substantially the same as that of the optical device.

Anti-reflection technique

A camera for photographing architectural scale models and the like to obtain photographs having natural full-scale perspective. The camera includes a film back adapted to receive panchromatic, preferably, self-processable type film. From the film back extends a relatively long body which tapers rather sharply from the film back to a narrow pedestal-like base upon which the camera stands and which allows easy access to model features. An optical system resides in the base and includes a long focal length positive lens and pinhole adapted to the long tapered body and an afocal, simple reversed Galilean telescope which serves to establish the camera field of view. Chromatic aberrations which might otherwise cause multiple images due to the long camera optical path are eliminated by appropriate filtering.

Camera for photographing scale models

A speedometer/odometer system for use on a bicycle which system uses a magnet/coil arrangement and a signal processing means for providing a count of the spokes of a wheel as they pass the magnet/coil arrangement the count being determined over a selected time period to provide a digital signal speed indication or being cumulatively counted to provide a digital signal indication of distance travelled. The system can be easily calibrated by using means for producing a calibration constant which can be used to multiply the digital signals and the resultant signal supplied to a suitable digital display means for visually displaying the speed or distance for the rider.
