Alignment apparatus for use in conjunction with other equipment for alignment rolls on processing equipment comprising a housing having a central longitudinal axis and a coaxial central bore having a generally cylindrical inner surface and a plug having a generally cylindrical outer surface dimensioned so that the plug may be rotatably mounted in the central bore with a longitudinal axis of the plug in coaxial relationship with the longitudinal axis of the central bore and with planar surfaces of the plug and the housing at the end of the central bore in mating engagement. The plug has an eccentric bore having a tapered inner surface with a longitudinal axis extending parallel to but offset from the longitudinal axis of the plug and an optical target having a support stem having a tapered outer surface adapted to be inserted in the eccentric bore so that the longitudinal axis thereof coincides with the longitudinal axis of the eccentric bore and so that rotation of the plug causes the optical target to move in lateral directions. The target is adjustable relative to the support stem so that the center of the target may be precisely positioned on the longitudinal axis of the support stem. Also, force applying apparatus is provided for ensuring the stability of the optical target during the rotation of the plug and for locking the plug in a desired position.

Alignment apparatus

An apparatus for measuring the relative coverage of a predetermined portion of a sheet of translucent material with an opaque medium such as ink or photographic emulsion, comprising: a light source for providing a relatively constant intensity source of light over a predetermined measuring area; a positioning device for positioning the predetermined portion of the sheet of material to be measured over the predetermined measuring area of the light source; a light measuring device for measuring the relative amount of light from the light source which is transmitted through the predetermined portion of the sheet of material to be measured, whereby the relative amount of opaque medium coverage of the portion of the sheet to be measured is readily determinable by comparison of the measured amount of light transmitted through the predetermined portion of the sheet to be measured with predetermined calibration values.

Apparatus for measuring opaque medium coverage of a translucent sheet

A web width control apparatus for controlling the ratio between web width change and web thickness change during a web length varying operation in a web transport system of the type including a moving web of relatively extensible maerial having a series of repeat length portions therealong which are designed to be presented at a web processing station at a preselected constant design length value and in which each said repeat length portion is subject to stretching or shrinking in length depending upon the tension provided in the region of the web in which said repeat length portion is positioned; and further including a first set of nip rolls operable at a selected surface velocity and a second set of nip rolls operable at a selectively variable surface velocity with respect to the surface velocity of said first set of rolls for causing relative length change in a web portion positioned therebetween for adjustably maintaining the respect length portions of the web at said predetermined design length value at the time of presentation of said repeat length portions at said web processing station comprising: web temperature control device for controlling the temperature of a control portion of the web positioned between said first and second sets of nip rolls during web length varying operations whereby a substantially constant, preselected web width is maintained at said web processing station.

Laminating method and apparatus with extensible web width control

A carton separating apparatus for separating a carton from a stack of cartons comprising a rotatable body; a drive shaft connected to said rotatable body; a plate mounted axially adjacent said rotatable body; a separating blade removably attached to said plate and having a side surface facing said rotatable body and defining an axial gap therebetween adapted to receive a portion of a carton; a single screw device supporting and connecting said plate to said rotatable body and including a first threaded portion of one pitch connected to said rotatable body and a second threaded portion of another pitch connected to said plate whereby rotation of said single screw device causes differential relative axial displacement of said rotatable body and said plate while maintaining a parallel relationship between opposite gap defining surfaces thereof; and a detent device to biasingly hold said screw device in selected incremental adjusted positions.

Carton blank feed apparatus

An apparatus and method for use in a triple gob feeder of a glass forming apparatus for forming molten glass gobs of uniform size, weight, volume and shape by equalizing the temperatures of the molten glass flowing through orifices in a triple gob orifice ring. Molten glass is retained in a middle reservoir of the triple gob orifice ring for a relatively longer average period of time than in end reservoirs of the ring preferably by providing a middle reservoir having a relatively larger volumetric size than the end reservoirs. In addition, the middle reservoir is cooled by directing a coolant through channels in a bottom surface portion of the orifice ring and onto external surfaces surrounding the middle reservoir.

Apparatus and method for obtaining uniform gobs in a triple gob feeder

Containers are discharged from a continuously operable, closed loop container carrier, having a multiplicity of parallel longitudinally and transversely aligned rows of container baskets with each container basket being offset from adjacent container baskets in adjacent rows, by a method and apparatus in which containers in alternate transverse rows of container baskets are transferred from the container carrier to a first discharge conveyor by a first container transfer means and containers in the other alternate transverse rows of container baskets are supported in the carrier past the first container transfer means and are transferred from the container carrier to a second discharge conveyor by a second container transfer means.

Method and apparatus for discharging containers from a closed loop

A method and apparatus for separating a generally rectangular array of containers into a single file line of similarly oriented single file containers. The array is comprised of a plurality of rectangular containers, some having transverse orientations and some having longitudinal orientations. The method of the invention includes advancing all the containers of the array into a number of lines of advancing containers, turning the containers with transverse orientations to longitudinal orientations, and converging the various transversely spaced and longitudinally oriented containers into a single file line of longitudinally oriented containers. The apparatus for practicing the invention may include a number of successive conveyor stations each having various conveyor means such as belts or rollers which sequentially advance the containers generally in a longitudinal path of movement. The conveyor means separates the containers into a number of multiple generally parallel separate paths of movement and changes the orientation of certain ones of the containers to subsequently effect a common orientation of all the containers. The conveyor means also combines the commonly oriented containers in the separate paths of movement into one row in a single path of movement wherein all the containers are in a commonly oriented relationship.

Method and apparatus for separating a palletized array of containers

Disclosed herein is a bottle packer apparatus for encasing bottles in a continuous operation, comprising a downwardly inclined case conveyor on which inverted cases are moved to a loading area, means at each side of the case conveyor contacting sides of the cases and moving them to loading position, and a bottle conveyor having a continually moving belt on which bottles are carried in a plurality of lanes to an area beneath the inverted case in the loading position, the belt continuing to move forwardly while a predetermined number of bottles enter the case in the loading position and other bottles accumulate rearwardly of the said case due to back pressure exerted by the loaded case against said accumulating bottles. The bottle conveyor speed is always equal to or faster than the case conveyor speed in order to provide for a continuous accumulation of bottles to avoid gaps.
