A dry powder inhaler for pulmonary or nasal use, comprising at least an inhaler body () and a cartridge () with a plurality of powder compartments () each including one dose of a drug. The body () has an opening () shaped for receiving the cartridge () and the plastic body recess () and the detent () to allow a controlled advancement and turning movement of the cartridge () relative to the body () for sequentially delivering each of the plurality of unit doses filled into the cartridge compartments (). The inhaler construction is suitable for filling the plurality of unit doses into the compartments () with the cartridge () assembled into the body (). The invention affords a large dose inhaler of single-use and low cost that improves industrial filling and manufacturing cost for the delivery of high dosages of inhaled medicines.

Large dose disposable inhaler and method of simple filling

A method and a device are presented to securely log in a computer user into a computer system by means of an anonymous identifier, thereby eliminating the use of a user name and a password and requiring just one click or touch by the user to log into the computer. The body has an openingshaped for receiving the cartridgeand the means to allow a controlled sliding movement of the cartridgerelative to the bodyafter mounting. The cartridge powder compartmentcomprises at least two inlets or slits, at least one of which is a side inlet, for the admission of air, and a compartment outletto allow filling and fluid communication with an inhalation channelprovided in the body. In use, the patient slides the cartridgerelative to the bodyfrom the storage position, where the inlets in the cartridge powder compartmentare blocked and sealed by walls comprised in the body, into the inhalation position, where the compartment inlets become available for the admission of air used in the dispersion of the particles there contained and the compartment outletbecomes aligned with the inhalation channelin the bodyto allow the entrainment of the dose dispersed through the device and into the desired site of action during inhalation. The addition of one or more lateral ventsin the cartridge powder compartments induces a turbulent and swirling flow pattern that promotes improved dispersion and entrainment. The invention affords a very economical and simple device for the delivery of high dosages of inhaled medicines.

Powder compartment for high dosage drug delivery

A new scalable process to control the particle size and the particle size distribution, comprising 5 steps: (i) suspension preparation in a mixture of solvents in which the API and/or excipient is partially soluble in one of the solvents; (ii) particle size reduction of the suspension; (iii) aging; (iv) stopping the aging by solvent removal; and (v) optionally, a step of isolating the processed ingredients in the form of powder.

Assisted particle size reduction process

A dry powder inhaler for pulmonary or nasal use, employing capsules containing a dose of powder for inhalation, comprising two operating components and an optional cover. Air is drawn by the patient via a mouthpiece or nosepiece which is in communication with the capsule and travels via air paths through the device and through the capsule thereby dispersing and entraining the dose of powder. The capsule is cut by cutting means located on one of the components, in a manner which eliminates or minimizes capsule debris and minimizes powder leakage during use. The inhaler body and capsule cutting blades comprise a single operating component and they may be manufactured in a single unitary step. The invention affords a very economical and simple device for the delivery of pulmonary medicines.

Simple capsule-based inhaler

A dry powder inhaler for pulmonary or nasal use, comprising at least an inhaler body and a cartridge with one or more compartments each containing one dose of a drug. The compartment has holes to admit air and holes to deliver powder, which, in use, communicate with an inhalation channel in the inhaler body. To prevent the powder from leaking through the compartment holes before use, the air admission holes are of reduced dimension, thereby blocking or hindering powder exit under the force of gravity. When the cartridge is inserted inside the inhaler body, all its holes can be blocked. By sliding the cartridge in relation to the body until the inhalation position is reached, the holes come into in fluid communication with one another and with the inhalation channel, thereby allowing a flow of air to disperse and entrain the dose through the mouthpiece. Five embodiments are disclosed.

Simple inhaler

Apparatus for orienting elongate objects, for example capsules of medicament, comprises a passage for receiving an individual capsule in a preferred orientation, a container for holding a bulk supply of capsules, and a ramp surface which directs a capsule towards the passage when the device is positioned such that the passage extends vertically downwardly from the container. It has been found that by appropriate choice of ramp angle, passage diameter and container diameter there is a high probability that a single capsule will be loaded into the dispensing passage when the apparatus is inverted to place the dispensing passage below the bulk supply. The apparatus is particularly useful in a dry medicament dispensing apparatus comprising, in addition to the orienting apparatus, a chamber for receiving capsules from the dispensing passage, means for piercing the ends of the capsule, and a mouthpiece for drawing air through the capsule and to entrain the medicament.

Apparatus for orienting and positioning an elongate object for dispensing

A new inhalation device, which during operation causes an aerosol to be formed inside a chamber such as a capsule (4) which occludes one end (3) of the inhalation tube (1), the capsule having holes at its extremities (7,8) which admit airflow. The airflow causes the powder contained inside the capsule to be surprisingly transported to the capsule extremity contrary to the direction of inhalation, that is towards the air entry holes in the capsule, and then to form an aerosol until all powder has been removed from the capsule or chamber through the tube (1), the during of inhalation being chiefly regulated by the size and proportion of the capsule holes. The tube (1) has air inlets downstream of the capsule to permit a balanced airflow that will transport the finely suspended powder into the lungs, maximizing the fraction of medicament deposited therein.
