A self-compensating tire compression device is provided for use with a trainer. The device attaches to a frame, such as a bicycle, that holds the axis of a driving wheel fixed. The device has a pivoting portion that presses a driven portion of a resistance device against the driving wheel. The pivoting point of the pivoting portion is located on the trainer to provide a static contact pressure between the driving wheel and the driven wheel, and when the driving wheel begins to rotate and the resistance device begins to resist the rotation, the contact pressure between the driving wheel and the driven wheel increases to prevent slippage between the two wheels.

Self-compensating tire compression trainer

A two-stage resistance trainer is provided having a first magnet that is in proximity to a rotating wheel, and a moveable second magnet that is linked to the first magnet. The first magnet is moved when the rotating wheel rotates and the second magnet is moved closer to the rotating wheel to add a second order effect to the resistance. The trainer is capable of adjusting the first magnet position in relation to the rotating wheel to provide a different relationship of speed to resistance.

Two stage progressive resistance trainer

A progressive resistance device is provided having a cylinder having an outer wall which defines an inner chamber. The cylinder is carried on an axle and is rotatable thereabout. An eccentric axle surrounds the axle and is rotatable relative the axle. A magnet carrier partially encircles the eccentric axle and carries a magnet. A bearing is nested between the magnet carrier and the eccentric axle. The magnet carrier is rotatable about the eccentric axle on an axis which is eccentric to the axle's axis, whereby the distance between the magnet and the outer wall is variable as defined by the rotative position of said housing relative said outer wall, which rotative position is governed by the speed of rotation of the cylinder. The progressive resistance device described herein is adapted for use as a roller on a bicycle trainer.

Progressive resistance system for an exercise device

A collapsible folding training device is provided having a rear frame portion that contains a resistance device. The resistance device uses eddy currents and has a pivoting magnet internally that creates progressively increasing resistance as speed increases. An arm is attached to the rear frame portion that can pivot from a stored position to an in-use position. At the opposite end of the arm, a front frame is attached where it can affix a portion of a driving mechanism, such as a bicycle. The front frame supports and stabilizes the driving mechanism. The arm sets the distance between the front frame and the resistance device.

Portable progressive resistance exercise device

A roller-type bicycle trainer includes a frame and a series of rollers that are configured to support the wheels of the bicycle. At least one of the rollers is formed of electrically conductive material, e.g. aluminum, and a magnetic resistance arrangement includes one or more magnets that are spaced from the electrically conductive material in order to create an eddy current resistive force that resists rotation of the roller, upon rotation of the roller by operation of the bicycle. The magnetic resistance arrangement includes an adjustment feature for adjusting the position of the one or more magnets relative to the roller, to vary the strength of the eddy current resistive force and thereby the degree of resistance to rotation of the bicycle wheel.

Magnetic resistance system for a roller-type bicycle trainer

A racking system for transporting a bicycle comprising a framework upon which the bicycle is mounted. A pair of telescoping arms, adjustable in length, are pivotally connected to the framework and removably secured to the seat post of the bicycle. The arms extend downwardly from the bicycle to the framework on opposite sides of the bicycle for laterally supporting the bicycle. The racking system further includes a tension mechanism having a tightening strap extending through the front wheel of the bicycle and through a cam buckle which is attached to an anchor strap to the framework for tightening the bicycle to the framework. The cam buckle frictionally engages the tightening strap to tighten the strap at the desired tension. The tension mechanism and the arms are configured and positioned to distribute the load on the bicycle so that the bicycle, frame, arms and tension mechanism are in a state of static equilibrium. The arms can be pivotally moved down to the frame to be secured to the frame in a stowed position.
