The invention relates to a method for checking an electrical value of an electric machine, in particular an electric machine of a coordinate measuring device. The electric machine has an electric drive comprising a stator and a rotor. The method includes the steps of: detecting a value of a drive current delivered to the electric drive for driving the rotor, detecting a measured value of an electrical input variable of the electric machine, determining a calculated value of the electrical input variable on the basis of the detected value of the drive current and on the basis of a performance model of the electric machine, and determining a comparison value on the basis of the detected measured value and the calculated value of the electrical input variable, in order to check the detected value of the drive current.

A system and a method for reliably monitoring a parameter, in particular a moment of inertia, required for determining a kinetic energy of an object that can be measured by means of a sensor of a coordinate measuring machine. The object is moved between various positions, with the object preferably being at least briefly at rest in each of the approach positions. The method comprises the steps of: a) initially determining the parameter, and setting the initially determined parameter as target value; b) moving the object from one position to a next position, and re-determining the parameter for a movement cycle between the corresponding positions; c) setting the re-determined parameter as an actual value; d) comparing the target value with the actual value; e) continuing the movement of the object if the comparison results in that the actual value substantially coincides with the target value, and returning to the step b) as long as a last position has not been reached; or f) outputting an error message if the comparison results in that the actual value deviates significantly from the target value.

Monitoring a safety-relevant parameter of a coordinate measuring device

A device has a displaceable device part, a drive, which is configured to drive the displaceable device part and to thus induce a movement in the displaceable device part, and a control unit, which is connected to the drive and is configured to control the drive. The device further has a first signal transmitter for determining a position and/or speed of the displaceable device part. In a method for reliably monitoring the speed of a moveable coordinate measuring device, a first value of the speed is calculated from measured values of the coordinate measurement system. The measured values contain information on positions of the coordinate measuring device. The measured values are further used to determine the coordinates of a measurement object. A second value of the speed is ascertained from measurement signals of at least one additional movement sensor. The measurement signals can also be used for controlling a drive device of the coordinate measuring device. A fault signal can be generated if the first value and/or the second value deviate from one another, from a predetermined value and/or a limit value according to a predefined criterion.

Reliable monitoring of the speed in coordinate measuring appliances

In a method for operating a coordinate measuring machine and to a coordinate measuring machine, a coordinate measuring device, of the coordinate measuring machine is moved in at least one direction while being driven by an electric motor. An electrical drive current which flows through the electric motor for moving the electric motor and, move the coordinate measuring device is measured. A limit value for the electrical drive current is determined on the basis of a desired speed and/or on the basis of a desired acceleration with which the electric motor or the coordinate measuring device is intended to move. If the electrical drive current reaches the limit value determined and/or if the electrical drive current exceeds the limit value determined, the coordinate measuring device is changed to a predefined state, by virtue of the computer or the microcontroller switching off one of the switches disposed in the current path.
