An electric vehicle drive unit includes an electric motor generating a torque. An input differential splits the torque into a first torque created by a first side gear and a second torque created by a second side gear. A first pinion gear shaft assembly receives the first torque and has a first pinion gear. A second pinion gear shaft assembly receives the second torque and has a second pinion gear. A first stage transfer gear assembly has a first, a second, a third, and a fourth transfer gear. A first stage speed reduction meshes the first pinion gear with the first transfer gear and the third transfer gear, and meshes the second pinion gear, the second transfer gear and the fourth transfer gear. A second stage gear assembly engages the first stage transfer gear assembly and includes a first final drive gear and a second final drive gear.

Gear load canceling electric drive unit architecture

A transmission system for a vehicle includes a first helical pinion gear having a helix angle coupled to a first shaft and configured to receive an input torque. The transmission system includes a second helical pinion gear having a first helix angle coupled to a second shaft and configured to receive the input torque. The second shaft is disposed within the first shaft and rotatable within the first shaft. The transmission system includes a differential assembly having a third helical gear having the first helix angle coupled to the first helical pinion gear, and a fourth helical gear having the helix angle coupled to the second helical pinion gear. The third helical gear and the fourth helical gear are coupled to a differential gear set to drive a first output shaft and a second output shaft associated with the vehicle.

A bearing assembly for a shaft comprises an outer shell including first and second radial walls axially spaced apart from each other and joined by a circumferential wall. A sealing element is disposed in the outer shell and includes a body portion in sealing engagement with the first radial wall or the circumferential wall of the outer shell. The sealing element includes a lip portion protruding radially inward from the body portion. The lip portion is arranged to sealingly engage the shaft. A bearing is press fitted in the outer shell between the sealing element and the second radial wall of the outer shell.
