The invention provides an automated method for isolating a targeted isotope, the method having the steps of supplying a dissolved uranium targets into a first reaction environment; precipitating non-targeted isotope within the first reaction environment transferring liquid phase targeted isotope to a second reaction environment; precipitating the liquid phase targeted isotope in the second reaction environment; dissolving the precipitated targeted isotope; transferring the dissolved targeted isotope to a third reaction environment; and precipitating non-targeted isotope (i.e., iodine), such that the targeted isotope remains in the solution. Also provided is an automated system for isolating isotopes, the system having a plurality of reaction environments adapted to pneumatically receive and disgorge reactants and products via remotely actuated valves positioned between each of the reaction environments.

A method for separating a parent isotope from a daughter isotope is provided, the method comprising supplying irradiated target; dissolving the irradiated target; treating the dissolved irradiated target to a precipitation step to form a first solid phase of the parent isotope and a first liquid phase of the daughter isotope; filtering the first liquid phase of daughter isotope to create a first purified fraction of the daughter isotope to create a second solid phase of the parent isotope and a second liquid phase of the daughter isotope; and filtering the second liquid phase to create a second liquid fraction of the daughter isotope. The process can be repeated until theMo is exhausted and the enriched target materialMo orMo can be easily re-used.

The invention provides a continuous method for extracting transition metal, the method comprising: supplying a spent generator liquor comprising transition metal in highly alkaline solution; mixing the liquor with acid thereby generating a solution, wherein the transition metal resides within the solution; combining the solution with an organic liquid comprising tributyl phosphate or other neutral extractant to extract the transition metal within the organic liquid; washing the extracted transition metal in the organic liquid with acid so as to remove non-transition-metal salts from the organic liquid phase; and stripping the washed transition metal loadedorganic liquid phase with hydroxide, water or complexing agent to remove the transition metal from the organic phase.
