A method for constructing ideographic characters by means of a character generator and displaying such characters within a standard character area of a display device coupled to the character generator. The method includes storing data in the character generator corresponding to (a) character components used for forming the ideographic characters, (b) information regarding the position within the standard character area of the character components associated with each ideographic character and (c) information regarding the size of the ones of the character components associated with each ideographic character. A character code is fed into the character generator to identify the ideographic character to be displayed and display control signals are emitted in accordance with the stored data relating to the ideographic character identified by the character code fed-in for displaying the associated character components arranged in the standard character area of the display device according to the stored position and size information.

Method for construction and display of ideographic characters

A method of displaying types of script whose characters are arranged next to one another in rows or underneath one another in columns, by means of a raster-type display device or a vectorially controlled display device which receives its control signals from a character generator which can be controlled so that its output signals to the display device cause the displayed characters to be either upright or rotated by 90.degree. (lying down) horizontally next to one another. With the latter mode of operation, a record carrier taken from a recording device and rotated by 90.degree. (or a video screen rotated by 90.degree.) then shows the printed text in the desired shape in which the characters are arranged underneath one another in columns.

Method of typing scripts whose characters are arranged next to one

In a word processing machine which operates to provide text in the form of successive lines of characters, and includes an input keyboard for the input of character representations, a data memory connected for storing such representations, a display device connected to receive such representations from the memory and presenting a horizontally-extending plurality of character display locations the right-hand one of which is an entry location, and a control unit connected for controlling the display provided by the display device in a manner to cause the display device to display at least a portion of a line of characters, with each character appearing, in the order of its input to the keyboard, at an entry location of the display and then shifting to the left in the display upon delivery of each subsequent character to the display, the display device is arranged to present at least one further character display location to the right of the entry location, and the control unit is made operable for causing at least a portion of a line of previously inputted characters to be displayed at adjacent ones of the character display locations, including the further location.

Word processor with display device

In a display device in a character processing machine, which machine operates to provide text in the form of successive lines of characters, with the length of each such line being within a predetermined range defined by a margin zone at the right-hand end of each line, the machine including an input keyboard for the input of character representations and a data memory connected for storing such representations, and the display device being connected to receive such representations from the memory and to display at least the end portion of a line of characters, with each character appearing, in the order of its input to the keyboard, at an entry location of the display and then shifting to the left in the display upon delivery of each subsequent character to the display, the display device is arranged to present a plurality of character display locations equal in number, and corresponding in position, to the spaces of the margin zone at the end of each line of characters, and the machine is constructed for causing margin zone markers to be displayed in the display device at the character display locations.
