The method includes the steps of sensing current engine rotational speed and engine rotational speed increase, estimating necessary minimum upshift engine rotational speed for a coming gear upshift, registering that the engine rotational speed stops increasing without reaching the minimum upshift engine rotational speed, and where the engine rotational speed stops increasing relatively close to a maximum engine rotational speed where engine efficiency is relatively low and, automatically controlling engine output torque in order to limit the engine rotational speed to a first predetermined engine speed where engine efficiency is relatively high.

Method for a more efficient use of a combustion engine in a vehicle

In a method and device for selecting a starting gear in a hybrid electric vehicle, a first driving sequence is registered during which a parameter indicates that an electric motor energy source has been drained past an energy level limit and/or no gear ratio shift from said starting gear ratio has occurred. Upon detection of the driving sequence, draining of said energy source and/or no gear ratio shift, selection of a starting gear ratio is altered to a gear ratio being higher, compared to a normal starting gear ratio, for the next vehicle take off of a driving sequence following the first driving sequence. This increases possibility that the vehicle during driving with the altered starting gear will reach a vehicle speed that corresponds to a combustion engine speed above idle speed of the combustion engine.

A rotating electrical machine and method for making the machine, where the machine includes a high-voltage stator winding and elongated support devices for supporting the winding. The machine and method employ an arrangement of cable that is made of inner conductive strands, covered with a first semiconducting layer, which is covered with an insulating layer, which is covered with a second semiconducting layer. The cable is wound in slots in the stator such that separate cable lead-throughs are positioned in specific arrangements with respect to each other and in slots of the stator. The arrangement of the cable in the stator protects the integrity of the respective components in the cable and particularly the second semiconducting layer.

The outer semiconducting layer () is at earth potential. The phases of the winding are Y-connected. The Y-point may be insulated and protected from over-voltage by means of surge arresters, or else the Y-point may be earthed via a suppression filter.

The generator is provided with solid insulation and its winding includes a cable () comprising one or more current-carrying conductors () with a number of strands () surrounded by at least one outer and one inner semiconducting layer () and intermediate insulating layers (). A method and device for providing series compensation for rotating electric alternating current machines connected either directly, or via a static current converter, to a three-phase distribution or transmission network. The stator of the electric machine is Y-connected. A capacitive circuit for the fundamental frequency of the voltage is connected to each phase between the low voltage side of the winding and a ground of the transmission network.
