Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems, methods, and computer readable media for managing bandwidth based on audio power level. In a particular embodiment, a method provides, from a conference system, transferring at least one audio level criterion to a first user system in a communication session. At the conference system, when a level of first audio for the communication session satisfies the at least one audio level criterion at the first user system, the method provides receiving the first audio encoded using first audio codec parameters by the first user system. At the conference system, when the level of the first audio does not satisfy the at least one audio level criterion at the first user system, the method provides receiving the first audio encoded using second audio codec parameters by the first user system.

In a particular embodiment, a method includes receiving a media stream from a first client device, wherein the media stream includes an audio stream. During receipt of the media stream, the method provides determining whether an audio power level of the audio stream satisfies criteria for inclusion in an output media stream from the media server system along with one or more media streams received from one or more other client devices. Upon determining that the criteria is not satisfied, the method provides transferring a first notification to the first client device that includes a first instruction for the first client device to reduce an amount of bandwidth used for transferring the media stream.

A method and system for allocating bandwidth among communication sessions are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method includes performing a first allocation to a first communication session and performing a second allocation to a second communication session. System and method to obviate a conferencing hub, in one embodiment the method including: subscribing to a meet-me conference call that comprises a plurality of endpoints; monitoring for a triggering condition related to the meet-me conference call; and if the triggering condition is triggered then, for each endpoint of the conference call, redirecting a media stream produced by the endpoint from the conferencing hub to another endpoint. In another embodiment, the method includes: receiving a call from a first endpoint to join a new meet-me conference; waiting a predetermined waiting-time; if no other endpoints have joined the meet-me conference during the waiting-time, disconnecting the first endpoint from the meet-me conference in order to obviate the meet-me conference hub; receiving a call from a second endpoint to join the meet-me conference; calling back the first endpoint; and bridging together the first endpoint and the second endpoint to reassemble the meet-me conference.

The invention is directed to method of generating database encoded software for controlling operation of a data processing device. The method comprises providing a formal language specification representative of source code for the software, translating said formal language specification into data suitable for storing in database structures and in a form suitable for being queried by a database query language and storing said data in database structures of a database. The method includes using a software development tool in a software development and testing environment to manipulate the database encoded software using a database query language such as SQL and XQuery to develop new software features. The query language can also be used to control replication and/or synchronization of the database encoded software with the contents of a data processing device control program database by way of installing said control program on said device or upgrading the control program software of said device.

A packet-based communications system or network is configured into multiple geographically distinct network bandwidth zones having interzone communications links with a configured maximum bandwidth. Adaptive bandwidth management based upon quality of server (QoS) measurement between two zones is utilized to dynamically raise or lower the maximum allowable bandwidth limit for the link between the two zones. When QoS between two zones degrades, the allowable bandwidth for new calls between the two zones is lowered to a point that assists in increasing the QoS back to an acceptable level (i.e., by blocking new calls or rerouting them). In one embodiment, the QoS information takes the form of QoS alarms generated and transmitted by active IP phones in the network bandwidth zone.

A system and method for routing calls from a time-division multiplexed (TDM) sets in an IP network to a geographically appropriate portion of the public switched telephone network (PSTN). A call is routed to an edge gateway in a geographic location corresponding to the geographic location of an IP media gateway to which the TDM set is connected. Each IP media gateway is associated with a geographic zone. Each geographic zone is also associated with at least one edge gateway. Accordingly, incoming calls are routed by the central call server based upon the geographic zone associated with the IP media gateway receiving the call, and are routed to an edge gateway associated with the identified geographic zone. The system and method may be applied to route emergency service access calls to an appropriate portion of the PSTN so that they arrive at a geographically appropriate public service answering point (PSAP).

Localization of call routing for TDM sets in an IP network

A communications system includes a first switch and a second switch coupled to a packet-based network. A first set of network terminals are coupled to the first switch, and a second set of network terminals are coupled to the second switch. Each of the terminals is associated with a virtual terminal number (VTN). Each of the first and second switches store profile information associated with VTNs of the terminals. The profile information relate to the capabilities or features of the network terminals. The switches communicate signaling over a packet-based trunk, or virtual trunk, that is established on the packet-based network. Each switch sends messages to their associated terminals to establish media paths over the packet-based network to establish a call session.

Establishing call sessions between terminals through plural switch systems

A key telephone system (KTS) or a telephone private branch exchange (PBX) card is integrated into a personal computer to provide telephone system features. The telephone card includes a call controller, a switching network and an interface bus controller for coupling data signals between the PCI bus and an internal bus of the call controller whereby the telephone card is able to communicate with resources of the PC such as a LAN and a hard disk bulk memory for executing telecommunications functions. In this arrangement the PCI bus must carry both asynchronous data processing and control signals as well as reformatted synchronous signals. The addition of a synchronous bus for transporting synchronous signals is used to couple these signals between the switching network, a telephony features controller and the hard disk bulk memory. The use of the synchronous bus provides for improved telephone traffic capacity and PC functionality.
