Compositions are provided to immobilize and protect oxidase enzymes from proteolytic and hydrolytic attack, utilizing a porous, inert organic, or inorganic, substrate matrix useful in generating hydrogen peroxide in situ for use in oral, topical mucosal and intracavity uses for use in or on the human body and other mammalian, reptile, fish and amphibians. The selected porosity of the support matrix provides the basis for generating hydrogen peroxide on a steady state basis. Both diatomaceous earth and silica gel, either in natural or pre-silanized forms, allow for the excluding of non-preferred enzymes from the support matrix, and for diffusion of the peroxide in the reduction of oral pathogens and their attendant malodorous compounds, or other pathogens in the mucosa, bodily fluids and cavities, in addition to oxidizing color bodies to affect bleaching.

Immobilized glucose oxidase for use in oral hygiene

A hair and scalp formulation based on a peroxidase enzyme and synergistic yeast extract therefore. It entails a chemically-inert carrier material, a germicidal/preservative agent, and a metal chelating agent. A skin protective formulation based on peroxidase enzyme and yeast extract. It entails a polymer carrier, a fatty acid emollient, a co-emulsifier of an amino acid complex essential to a fatty acid; an emulsifying agent; a skin healing agent, and a germicidal surfactant. Zwitterionic fatty acid compounds for anti-inflammation

A garment for treating the skin, a method of making the garment and a method of using the garment to treat the skin, made of garment material, in particular hose material to be worn tightly against the skin, which has a multiplicity of durable chemical bonding sites. The durable sites which are preferably of the type to make covalent bonds, are bound to binding molecules which form chemical hooks for the garment material. Each of the chemical hooks has one or more semi-durable chemical bonding sites of the type which can chemically bond an active ingredient molecule to the binding agent but which is broken in the presence of skin conditions which are normal such as normal skin pH, normal skin moisture and normal skin heat generated both by body heat and the heat of friction of the garment rubbing against the skin. Active ingredient molecules such as molecules of theophylline or theophylline complexes are bound to the binding agent and are released to the skin when the garment is worn.

Anti-cellulite pantyhose

A composition and method for treating both superficial and subdermal inflammation is taught by treating an inflamed skin area, muscle, or bone joint, with a therapeutically effective amount of a skin-compatible ester of a zwitterionic aminosulphonic acid (ZASA-Ester) of the formula. ##STR1## wherein M is an alkali metal, like sodium, and R is a naturally occurring, straight-chain, saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic acid, the esters of which form fatty acids in nature. The most useful of which are the acetic oleic (cis isomer), linoleic, palmitic, and stearic moieties; they occur naturally as glycerides, i.e., esters of glycerol. Also useful are analogs of HEPES like piperazine-N'-(2-ethane sulfonic acid); N-methylpiperazine-N'-(2-ethane sulfonic acid);, and the piperiodine analog of the piperazine ester. A pharmacologic composition is also provided which comprises at least one amphoteric (Zwitterionic-ester) with a pharmacologically-acceptable topical carrier or base. Other adjunctive pharmaceutical agents may be included to facilitate other than topical administration. Also useful are analogs of HEPES, like Piperazine-N.sup.1 (2-ethanesulfonic acid; N-Methylpiperazine-N.sup.1 (2-ethanesulfonic acid) and the piperidine analog of the piperazine ester.

Zwitteronic-fatty acid compounds having anti-inflammatory properties

A composition comprising a seed-derived proteinaceous particulate material for reducing the formation of sunburn cells in skin exposed to ultraviolet irradiation and method of using same, where the seed-derived material has a protein content of between about 1% and 50% and an average particle size of between about 1.0 .mu.m and about 600 .mu.m. Seed-derived proteinaceous particulate material is applied to skin in a topically acceptable carrier and reduces the formation of sunburn cells upon exposure of the skin to ultraviolet irradiation.
