An apparatus and method for lean/rich combustion in a gas turbine engine (), which includes a combustor (), a transition () and a combustor extender () that is positioned between the combustor () and the transition () to connect the combustor () to the transition (). Openings () are formed along an outer surface () of the combustor extender (). The gas turbine () also includes a fuel manifold () to extend along the outer surface () of the combustor extender (), with fuel nozzles () to align with the respective openings (). A method () for axial stage combustion in the gas turbine engine () is also presented.

Lean-rich axial stage combustion in a can-annular gas turbine engine

Determining a distance between stationary and moving portions of a turbo machine including generating, by a fixed gap capacitive probe, a first output signal based on a characteristic of a gas in a gas flow path of the turbo machine, wherein the fixed gap capacitive probe is located in the stationary portion and is configured to sense a characteristic of a gas flowing through the gas flow path. Also, a variable gap capacitive probe, located adjacent the fixed gap capacitive probe, is used to generate a second output signal based on a distance between the variable gap capacitive probe and the moving portion, wherein the variable gap probe is configured to capacitively couple to the moving portion of the turbo machine. Afterwards, the value of the second output signal can be adjusted based on the first output signal to produce an adjusted output signal.

Sensor for measuring blade tip clearance in gas turbines

A catalytic oxidation module () for a gas turbine engine () includes a bundle () of tubular elements () separating a first fluid flow of a combustion mixture () from a second fluid flow (e.g.,). Each of the tubular elements has an inlet end () and an outlet end () in fluid communication with a downstream plenum () and a respective end portion () comprising a plurality of spaced apart longitudinal fingers (). The fingers of each tubular element are joined at abutting fingers of respective adjacent elements to retain the tubes at the respective end portions with sufficient flexibility to allow relative movement between the adjacent tubular elements. A catalyst () is disposed on respective surfaces of a plurality of the tubular elements exposed to at least one of the first fluid flow and second fluid flow.
