A metallurgical device, in particular a casting installation, rolling mill or strip processing installation, including at least one machine part rotating about an axis, wherein an energy consumer that is in electrical connection with an energy source is arranged in the machine part. To supply the energy consumer with energy on a sustained basis in spite of adverse ambient conditions, the energy source is designed as a generator which is in connection with the rotating machine part for rotation therewith, wherein the generator is otherwise free of any mechanical connection with the metallurgical device and wherein the generator has a housing element, on which at least one eccentric mass arranged at a location that is at a distance radially from the axis.

The invention relates to a method, a computer program and a rolling mill train for cold rolling a metal strip (). In order to achieve a shortening of undesired off-gauge lengths, the method according to the invention provides that the head () of the metal strip () already undergoes a thickness reduction at the first active rolling stand (n) in the rolling mill train, and then is transported on to the next rolling stand, in order to undergo a further thickness reduction there. The invention relates to a method of producing a metal strip () in a plant, comprising a continuous casting plant (), a first furnace (), a second furnace () and an adjoining rolling mill (). In order to save energy, the method provides in accordance with the invention the steps of: a) establishing a scope of production, which is effected, of metal slabs or metal strips (), comprising at least two different metal slabs or metal strips (); b) determining the respective entry temperature (T) into the rolling mill () for all metal slabs or metal strips () to be produced; c) determining an exit temperature (T) from the first furnace (), wherein this is selected to be smaller than the highest entry temperature (T), which is determined in step b), into the rolling mill () and smaller than or substantially the same as the lowest entry temperature (T), which is determined in step b), into the rolling mill (); d) operating the first furnace () in such a manner that the metal slabs or metal strips () to be produced leave the first furnace () with the exit temperature (T) determined in accordance with step c); e) heating or reheating a metal slab, which is to be produced, or a metal strip (), which is to be produced, by means of the second furnace () to its requisite entry temperature (T) in the rolling mill () insofar as this temperature lies above the exit temperature (T), which was determined in accordance with step (d), of the first furnace (). In addition, the invention relates to a plant for producing a metal slab or a metal strip.

Energy is recovered from steel products produced in a steel mill where the products are transported into a storage area by first extracting heat from the steel products prior to or after transport into the storage area by heat exchangers for a predetermined period in which residual heat of the steel products is transferred by the heat exchangers into a heat-transfer medium to heat same. The heated transfer medium is then transferred via heat-transfer transport lines for power generation or for direct use of the process heat in other heat consumers. This transport of the heat-transfer medium from the heat exchangers to the power-generating plant in the heat-transfer transport lines is carried out only at pump feed pressure or using as a heat-transfer medium liquid mineral or synthetic thermal oil or a salt melt so as not to build up a steam pressure above 2 bar.

A method for the detection and classification of surface defects on continuously cast products using topographical information about the appearance of continuously cast surface defects and/or flaws are determined with respect to their exact position, evaluated with respect to their location and dimensions, and eliminated in accordance with the evaluation prior to further machining of the product, or are prevented by optimizing the process. The defects and/or flaws on the slab surface of the continuously cast preliminary product are detected and are stored with respect to their exact position and a detection of defects and/or flaws on the finished product is carried out and stored with respect to their exact position, and in that the information from the preliminary product is then compared with the information from the surface inspection on the finished product. Only the information which has led to, or can lead to, defects on the finished product is considered for the elimination of defects and/or flaws on the preliminary product.

Method and rolling mill for improving the running-out of a rolled metal strip whose trailing end is moving at rolling speed

A hot rolling installation should be constructed and able to be operated so that strips of materials, which can be shaped with different levels of difficulty and have a thickness of less than 1 mm, can be rolled. According to the invention, strip speeds of 15 m/sec should not be exceeded at the outlet of the last roll stand regardless of the material being used, and the hot-rolled strip should have austenitic structures. To this end, the invention provides that thin slab thicknesses of approximately 50 mm are used for easily shapeable material, that the first of seven stands is driven or executes only a smoothing pass, the slab is de-scaled in front of and behind the first stand, and that the second to seventh stand effects the reduction in thickness to less than 1 mm.

Hot rolling installation

A hot-rolling stand including blocks arranged in the stand windows and having hydraulic piston cylinder units provided as bending devices which are able to transfer bending forces via guide elements onto the chocks of the working rolls. For each block a double-acting hydraulic piston cylinder unit is provided whose two ends are connected with the guide elements. The guide elements have guide that engage both sides of the free ends of noses of the working roll chocks so as to permit axial movement of the working rolls.

A looper for measuring a wedge proportion of a longitudinal pull present within a strip in a longitudinal direction of the strip, wherein the wedge proportion is present across a width of the strip, has a looper shaft and pivot arms each having a first end and a second end, wherein the first ends are connected to the looper shaft. A continuous looper roll extends across the width of the strip and is supported on the second ends of the pivot arms, wherein the looper roll is adjusted relative to the strip by rotation of the looper shaft. Each pivot arm has a looper shaft arm, a looper roll arm, and a joint connecting the looper shaft arm and the looper roll arm to one another. A dynamometer is connected to each pivot arm, wherein the joints of the pivot arms deflect a return force, exerted by the strip onto the looper roll and corresponding to the longitudinal pull, onto the dynamometers, respectively.
