A first wanted signal beam is formed at a multi-element antenna array to receive a first wanted signal having a first and second sub-carrier, each having known transmitted modulation, and the subcarriers are combined using a first linear relationship determined to reduce a component of the wanted signal. A first orthogonal beam is formed that is orthogonal to the first wanted signal beam, and a first subcarrier received in the first orthogonal beam corresponding in frequency to the first subcarrier of the first wanted signal is combined, using the first linear relationship, with a second subcarrier received in the first orthogonal beam corresponding in frequency to the second subcarrier of the first wanted signal. The linear combinations are processed to generate weights, which are applied to interference received in the first orthogonal beam to produce weighted interference which is combined with the received first wanted signal to reduce interference.

Interference reduction at a wireless station comprising a multi-element antenna array

A main antenna arrangement is configured to receive with a pre-configured first directional radiation pattern having a first beam with a first beamwidth and to provide first received signals at a first output, and at least one auxiliary antenna is configured to receive with a pre-configured respective second directional radiation pattern having a second beam with a second beamwidth, different from the first beamwidth and to provide second received signals at a second output. Interference cancelling circuitry is configured to control the amplitude and phase of the second received signals received from the at least one auxiliary antenna to produce weighted second received signals and combine the weighted second received signals with the first signals received from the main antenna arrangement to reduce a level of interference signals received by the main antenna arrangement in relation to a level of wanted signals received in the main antenna arrangement.

Interference mitigation apparatus and method for a wireless terminal

Interference mitigation for a MU-MIMO wireless communication network includes determining a MU-MIMO group of further wireless stations to which respective beams are to be formed, forming a first beam for reception of transmitted data from a second wireless station based on previously determined channel estimates. When the MU-MIMO group has fewer members than a number of beams which a beamforming weights matrix is configured to receive, forming an additional beam(s) being offset in angle of arrival by a respective predetermined angle from the first beam for reception of the transmitted data from the second wireless station, and generating a decoded data stream from a data stream resulting from receipt of the transmitted data in the first beam and from respective data streams resulting from receipt of the transmitted data from the additional beam(s).

Method and apparatus for interference mitigation for a MU-MIMO wireless communication network

A radio frequency transmission arrangement comprises a ground plate having an aperture comprising a slot with an elongate cross-section and substantially parallel sides, and a first and second transmission line. The thickness of the ground plate is greater than a width of the slot. The aperture is partially filled with a solid dielectric material and partially filled with air. The first transmission line comprises a first elongate conductor on a first side of the ground plate and has an end terminated with a first termination stub. The second transmission line comprises a second elongate conductor on the opposite side of the ground plate and has an end terminated with a second termination stub. The first transmission line is arranged to cross the slot at a point adjacent to the first termination stub, and the second transmission line is arranged to cross the slot at a point adjacent to the second termination stub.

Radio frequency connection arrangement

An access point of a wireless communication network forms beams by applying a weightset for a beamforming weights matrix to signal streams. The Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) that is emitted from an array of antenna elements at the access point is controlled by calibrating the transmission phase and gain of a respective transmit chain for each antenna element, providing a polar radiation model for an antenna element of the array, and determining a weightset for the weighting matrix subject to a constraint that a maximum total EIRP for the beams in combination in any azimuth direction is maintained within a predetermined EIRP limit, based at least on a spatial separation of the antenna elements, the polar radiation model and the calibrated transmission phase and gain of each respective transmit chain.

A radio frequency transmission arrangement comprises a ground plate having an aperture comprising a slot with an elongate cross-section and substantially parallel sides, and a first and second transmission line. An access point () for use in a point to multipoint wireless network comprises a sector antenna () and an antenna array of antenna elements (), the antenna elements not including the sector antenna, and the antenna elements being arranged to receive signals from the same sector as the sector antenna. A first beamformer () is configurable to form a first beam () from signals received at the antenna array and a selector switch () is switchable to at least a first state in which signals received at the sector antenna () are connected to a first receiver (), and a second state in which signals received from the first beamformer () are connected to the first receiver (). A scheduler is configured to set the selector switch () to the first state for at least a first receive timeslot and to the second state for at least a second receive timeslot.

Methods and apparatuses for beam pattern stabilization are provided. A method may include processing an output of a gyroscopic sensor to generate a plurality of first phase corrections for a first time interval and a plurality of second phase corrections for a second time interval. The method may further include measuring respective signal propagation characteristics between each antenna element of the array and each of a first and second subscriber module for the first time interval. The method may further include forming, based on the measured respective signal propagation characteristics, the plurality of first phase corrections, and the plurality of second phase corrections, a MU-MIMO beam pattern for the second time interval having a main lobe towards the first subscriber module and a null towards the second subscriber module, whereby to correct for a change in orientation of the array between the first time interval and the second time interval.

Method and apparatus for beam pattern stabilization

In a multi user multiple input multiple output MU-MIMO wireless communication network comprising an access point and subscriber modules, a method of channel sounding comprises forming a respective MU-MIMO beam from the access point to each subscriber module of a first sounding group of subscriber modules by applying a beamforming weightset to a weighting matrix, the beamforming weightset determined based on previously determined channel estimates. Each MU-MIMO beam is used to transmit a respective sounding symbol, each respective sounding symbol being different from each other sounding symbol of the first sounding group. A first sounding symbol is received at a first subscriber module of the first sounding group, and it is determined whether to send a response message to the access point on the basis of a determination of a received level of interference to the first sounding symbol.
