The invention enables production of polymer fibrids comprising a polyester which is injected as a low-viscosity jet into a shear field formed by liquid jets, torn apart by the liquid jets and formed into fibrids having a fibril length of from 0.1 to 5 mm by cooling, crystallization and orientation.

Manufacture of polymer fibrids

The invention relates to a process for the solvent-free and dry production of particles from plastics. According to the invention, the plastic is heated to form a viscous material, in this form, is conveyed as material stream through an outlet into a comminution device and there, with spraying of a pressurized liquid atomization medium against it, is comminuted into fibrids and/or fine particles.

Process and apparatus using liquefied gas for making plastic particles

Elastic, heat-insulating shapes of ceramic, refractory or fireproof fibers and, where needed, further refractory or fireproof substances, and temporary or inorganic binders, as well as a process for the preparation thereof. The heat-insulating shapes are characterized by the fact that they contain 5 to 40 weight % of fibrids comprised of organic polymers, as a result of which they have elastic properties and can be formed with ease at moderate temperatures. In preparing these shapes, a customary aqueous dispersion containing the fibers and binder is mixed with the fibrids of the organic polymer, and water is removed therefrom and the shapes are otherwise produced in a known manner.

Heat-insulating shaped fibrous articles and a process for producing them

An identity card comprising at least one outer transparent thermoplastic covering layer and a thermoplastic core layer; said card carrying at suitable points on at least one layer information which serves to identify the cardholder; said card further carrying security markings, such as guilloche figures, as a protection against forgeries; said core layer comprising incorporated fibrids. In a preferred embodiment, the core layer is a paper felt enriched with at least 80% by weight fibrids of a polyolefin, such as polyethylene, and comprising from 8 to 14% by weight pigment material, such as titanium dioxide. The core layer may also be provided with a reinforcing layer, such as a randomly perforated paper or polyester film, which is dimensionally stable during lamination of the layers under pressure at elevated temperatures of up to 180.degree. C.

Plaster board panels wherein at least the top layer of one of the two cardboard sheets contains polyolefin fibrides can be easily dehydrated during their manufacture because of the porosity of the cardboard sheets. The finished panels have a substantially sealed surface of low porosity which is resistant to wet treatment and thus suitable for the application of various painting and coating systems.
